im agree with Avatar. I think that some tournaments could be with handicaps and others (more of them) with normal rules. Maybe tournaments handicaps could help at new players to try to do better because is too dificult play well in WGT. Few players are too big than Avatar or Bollox but i think that wgt could remember a bit to new members and send some prizes (balls, clubs, avatars) in handicaps tournaments. If someone wants to probe handicaps tournaments could see it in Golfseekers, includes Avatar and Bollox of course. I will be very happy to play some tournament with us with or without handicaps rules. See you soon

BB couldn't have said it any better.. ive been here over a yr and half and just now getting to where i can score in the low sixties. some folks learning curve is a lil longer or maybe they just don't have or put the time in to understand the physics of the game. i'm starting to get a small glimpse and flashes of how the " Elite Players" have mastered this game. with that said i'm still not as consistent as they are.. "To be the best u got to beat the best".....

    hi Niv,

thanks for the country club up grades. just a couple of points on the club torneys are they all played in ranked mode.

and it would be better if instead of 24 48 or 72 hour duration that we could set our own start and finish date, giving members a few days notice of any comp starting and up to a week to play from starting date. and i take it you can only play these comps as a single player and not with another member of the club.

Of course you are Jake  -  why change a system that rewards you  lol

I agree that the Opens  should not be subject to handicap as they would in fact have major prizes attached

As regards  Russell Henley as an amateur  he would not be allowed to win a prize  lol  maybe  you should brush up on the rules a bit (rule 3.1 if  ya interested)   Maybe I should put away the sarcasm too!

Funny how  this seems to have attracted those that it would mainly affect isn't it?

So what your saying then bollox just cos some can't play as good as the elite they shouldn't have a chance of winning well thats say's everything.

I'm going to stop this one right here.  There are certain tournaments (the Opens for example) that should not be handicapped.... and there are other tournaments that can be.  Bottom line is both methods should be employed but for different types of tournaments.  Could you imagine handicapping the US Open or the Open Championship?  I don't think so.  And no I am not saying this as one of the 'elite', I would have the same opinion if I were just one of the regular joe golfers.

Did I mention aything in my post about handicapping all tournaments eh! no, I just said  that because all players are not as good as the elite we shouldn't be able to have a chance of winning.

nowhere in my post does it state anything about handicapping major tournaments.

I see nothing holding anyone back from practicing and improving to the point where they can compete.

    hmmm....nothing?.....so sad.

Job? Life? Wife & kids? Age? Motor skills?  just for starters.

    SLASHX:

Lee you are a "regular joe golfer" who has played and put in the time and effort  required to excel at this game. Should there not be benefits that come with that? Personally i think there should be. It's like anything else in life... sometimes it isnt fair in some people's minds and they think they should be able to play a few ranked rounds and be able to compete with someone like yourself who has played countless rounds in order to be able to play at the level you do. Honestly...  i think the site is just fine without a handicap system. If i want to enter a tournament and compete with you then i should play the game and pay the dues in order to be able to do that... rather than having to be given strokes to do it. There is a lot of fun to be had on the site without ever having to go head to head with you and try to compete until my game some day evolves to a level comparable to yours. There should be no expectation to win weekly tourneys until my game advances to the point that i can compete without having to be given strokes to do so. Guess what?? Some people are just better than others at things and thats the way it goes. Sheeesh.

You are 99.9% correct Slash..... but for the interest of incentive for the "regular joe golfers" who do not have the time or the ability to reach the upper levels, (and for the WGT revenue stream) I am in favor of hadicapping certain tournaments.  If there is a higher chance of winning something, there is always a higher buy-in, pots go up, WGT revenues go up.  I would say for Country Club tournaments in particular, making both handicapped and low score options available is necessary.

Lee is IMO the best player on the site, he fits all of those criteria,  a job, a life, married, kids, elderly :) , probably spends 1/3 as much time playing the game as the other 'elite', but yet still finds a way to get it done.

For those who may not consider a handicap system for WGT here are some thoughts:

WGT sets up ALL the tournaments on this site and therefore as the host runs them as scratch tournaments - their choice - the same names are always in the top 10 and the remaining playing members of this site have little chance to compete.  Ok, that's fine and certainly one is not required to participate in any tournament, challenge or competition put on by WGT.  However, if Country Clubs (real ones) only ran stroke tournaments many of their paying members would object and that is why in, ((pause) ok can't say all), most Country Clubs you will find a handicap system and handicap tournaments in which all members can participate and have a fair chance of competing.

Certainly I applaud those who have tweeked their games to the extent of Lee, and others but there are many players here, for what ever reason, have not reached that level.  It is not always how many games you play or how hard you practice, sometimes it is internet connectivity, lack of funds to buy top end equipment, age, eyesight and so forth.  They still like to get on here and compete though.  I myself had to give up real golf due to spinal chord damage.  This is the best alternative around to help replace the real thing.  Not one prize on this site has been attainable to me and many others who play pretty good but just can't compete on the "ELITE" level.  Doesn't and shouldn't be meant to take anything away from you folks but why so negative about WGT maybe having a tournament or two were the majority of WGT players would have a shot at winning a nice prize instead of the same players in every tournament ?

Lee, I think your support for a handicap system is admirable.  Again, Country Clubs run Stroke only tournaments and I think WGT should continue that as well.
