    caucus:
If the effects of wind & elevation are so difficult to define exactly and indeed are infinitely variable in any case, how come so many WGT players are able to record scores of 50 for an 18 hole round?
    Hi Tony!

It's certainly difficult - no - impossible to define a general rule, but an experienced player like you and me will be able to make decisions above educated guesses, allowing for vg results in many cases. What makes a brilliant player, so I am told, is the ability to hole out the long putts even when the deviation devil strucks, or to show their excellent scrambling skills.

And don't forget that Mr. Gibson and his collegues have a max of four ranked games per week, in "single play mode", while some here may have a higher figure per day, plus the chance to restart anytime. IIRC, the first(?) fabulous 49 round resulted from 33 hours of work through a weekend, with restarts within the first three if the score was outside -5 then (eagle, birdie, eagle on KIA).

    Hi Paul

Anyone who is prepared to devote 33 hours to playing a silly online computer game in a single weekend needs medical help with their addiction!

    +1 Alosso.

But personally I think a score of 50 is overrated in this game.On a good day I can do this, and even repeat it on the back 9!

Going back in the thread I see Greyowl mentions 6 million players. I have seen this figure brandished before, but where does it come from? Possibly this is the "registered" players but as we all know some players have many more accounts than just the "allowed" one account so would be grossly inflated. Just curious.

Edit LOL caucus - yes they must have a serious addiction. The sad thing is, I could play every hour of the weekend and still suck! The difference would be I wouldn't enjoy the game then.

I don't think alcaucin is spanish, he has a very good grasp of english and a lot of it's saying's.

Therefore I am willing to bet he is as English as me. and I am pedigree, not aristocratic, but nonetheless pure pedigree.

Cockney if you really want to know.

he's from the UK .. lives in Spain .. have played a couple rounds with both him & Paul (alosso) .. both fine chaps IMO .. some people are just more concise & direct than others .. and some people struggle do digest that .. i fail to see any wrong with Paul's post .. in fact, it was pretty funny .. "choose the senior's entrance to roll in" with starter clubs to elevated greens .. very apt

     @ nolongerionger ..

add 1 yd for every 3ft up .. subtract 1yd for every 3ft down

For the op and anyone else that would like.... here is a table that was passed to me so I will pass it on.

Factor in elevation first, then for basic head and tailwinds, make the adjustments. This has worked pretty well for me.

         MPH         ADJUST

         3                  1%    of distance +/-

         5                  2%        "

        7-8                3%       "

        10                 4%       "

        12                 5%       "

        15                 6%       "

        18                 7%       "

        20                 8%      "

         Example :  100 yd  with 10 mph tailwind = 96 yd

There are other formulas but for me, this works as a GENERAL guideline (keeping in mind that courses vary) for most courses.

I don't think too much of the 50's scores - it's like comparing TW's play to my real golf game :)

I agree, the 6 mio. should be the all-time sign-ins. Some players seem to know how to extract this number from the website. Me thinks that the "look up - walk away" guys exceed the multis by far - all those 150 ave. Hacks...

Would be interesting to know how many active players are there who have played more than 10 rounds this year or bought anything in the pro shop - you dare a phone call with Chad, Alan?

And, the nicer word for addiction is devotion. Why not pick up the task to beat the game this way? I remember finding myself locked into a College building once at 2 am - it had taken that long to beat those f*ing Klingons in an "Enterprise" game on a mainframe computer - before the invention of the IBM-PC :)

On a more serious note: Yes, it is addicting, dangerous for some. We should never forget that the skills that we develop to master the game do rather show how well we have adopted our thinking to it's limitations => the game masters the players!

    Have fun!

Thank you for the kind words Chris!

The description is from my daily experience on real courses - strategies of ageexperienced players! My abilities for high approaches are limited, must look for ways to sneak in below the radar from further out.

Edit: The crown of senior skills is the "bump over" IMHO. If you can't clear a hazard in flight, land the ball before it and let it jump over to your target!

If, as you say, there are 6 million members of WGT where are they when you're trying to set up an alternate shot game? Frequently, when I attempt to set up a game with one or two friends and seek a random player all we get is a repeated choice of three or four players, all of whom decline the invitation.

Does anyone know what is going on with AS??  Takes many many trys to get Legends and above, most times have to drop down to Masters. When select best match, it only comes up with maybe 8 or 10 alternatives, but they almost always have a yellow or orange check mark.
