Welcome to the game Beth. It does take time to get better, but really comes from practice. Ensure you read the tips under the FAQ's to the right of this page.
Once you get a little more experience it gets easier to find a game so recommend you try some ranked rounds and then work on lowering your average. Also bear in mind the starters equipment has limitations but is great for learning with (no need to upgrade until you reach a higher level).
Most importantly, have fun as it is a great game.
