I'd look at it from the point of view of the spirit of the game.
In real golf if professionals used a wedge on every green, when they were some distance way, the authorities would soon put a stop to it and change the rules.
I'd do one of three things on WGT.
1) A putting CTTH should be just that or call it green shots CTTH.
2) Disable wedges - specify putters only.
or
3) Allow players 3 wedge shots on the 9 hole CTTH. Those that have mastered the wedge will have to learn to get their putters out. Those that haven't will think about learning the wedge. Everyone wins.
I like idea 3) a lot.
It's getting silly on a putting CTTH that someones posting a total score in single figures FFS.
Furthermore, shake it up a bit please WGT. It's been the same 9 puuting/wedge strokes since inception.
How about replacing Best of Putting with just 'Putting'. Have a database of say 45 putts, and no tournament is the same 9 strokes. Have a few from the fringe, and some steep up and downhillers. Vary green speed within tournaments as well.
You have shown us what can be done with the craziness format. You only give us one new stroke play a year. Work with what resources you ALREADY have at your disposal to make it fun, interesting and challenging.
Put it this way. If I enter the putting CTTH and score say 45ft, I won't even bother to look and see if I have won a prize. So what's the point in entering just to get done by a group of the same old gamers using wedges to clean up the credits.
Heck even keep the dull old Best of Putting to keep them happy.
