I made a post back in April, threw a little coal on the fire back then. Now I am seating back and watching the show. WGT I think can stop the use of wedges on the greens; they haven't so that makes them legal to use. Now I would have NO PROBLEM, if WGT would stop allowing wedges on the greens all together (at that point it would be a rule, not to use them). At this point it is allowed, that makes it a allowable to WGT; I don't really like doing it but when in Rome......  I am over it.

Oh by the way; Rose give them heck, lady and glade to see you out there!

    Cheers and TC

As long as I am allowed to do it I will, however I do agree that a putting contest is just that . Putting only. But I do love to use that wedge lol.

I challenge any wedge users on greens (especially winners of Blitzes) to a CTTH putting match, but putters only, any conditions.   Any takers?

Send me a friend request and game request -after you get in some putting practice!  :-p

I'd look at it from the point of view of the spirit of the game.

In real golf if professionals used a wedge on every green, when they were some distance way, the authorities would soon put a stop to it and change the rules.

I'd do one of three things on WGT.

    1) A putting CTTH should be just that or call it green shots CTTH.

    2) Disable wedges - specify putters only.

    or

    3) Allow players 3 wedge shots on the 9 hole CTTH. Those that have mastered the wedge will have to learn to get their putters out. Those that haven't will think about learning the wedge. Everyone wins.

    I like idea 3) a lot.

It's getting silly on a putting CTTH that someones posting a total score in single figures FFS.

Furthermore, shake it up a bit please WGT. It's been the same 9 puuting/wedge strokes since inception.

How about replacing Best of Putting with just 'Putting'. Have a database of say 45 putts, and no tournament is the same 9 strokes. Have a few from the fringe, and some steep up and downhillers. Vary green speed within tournaments as well.

You have shown us what can be done with the craziness format. You only give us one new stroke play a year. Work with what resources you ALREADY have at your disposal to make it fun, interesting and challenging.

Put it this way. If I enter the putting CTTH and score say 45ft, I won't even bother to look and see if I have won a prize. So what's the point in entering just to get done by a group of the same old gamers using wedges to clean up the credits.

Heck even keep the dull old Best of Putting to keep them happy.

I'd also put that practice putting green on the roadmap as well.

I'd look into setting up one green with ups and downs and lefts and rights of medium speeds.

The I'd allow the player to place the ball where he/she likes and choose the green speed from some sort of drop down box. Or the green speed can be selected in the set up screen.

If all that is to difficult to implement, set up a practice area with several actual green options from courses on here: Kaiwah (people have problems with the mapping apparantly), RSG, and Merion. Plus, three sets of putting positions - easy, medium and hard. With green speed as tier specific if need be.

Takes some work, but must be possible.

Some very good suggestions there Peter.

As pointed out in earlier posts, I agree with a lot of what you say, especially about the spirit of the game. The level of wedge use on greens on WGT wouldn't be tolerated in the real game, professional or amateur.   I also like your compromise  3) Allow players 3 wedge shots on the 9 hole CTTH....."   but at this stage, WGT don't seem flexible to compromise or change on this one.  No harm trying though, you should post your suggestions here.

I don't think that "the wedgers" use the wedge more than 3 times as it is, not unless they are completely useless at putting.  The wedges comes in use where there is serious elevation and/or breaks that changes direction. In short - the interesting ones. That is what I feel is a pity, that I, if I was to enter such a contest, would feel that I must use the wedge to get a reasonably safe score (some putts can miss by 5-6 yards if your putt ends up falling over on the wrong side of a ridge for example).

Of course, a putting competition that you can repeat is a pretty useless excersise that I actually once did (for fun) - I put a transparent paper on the screen marking aim points and noted the power. A bunch of rounds and I had each hole mapped and a ding would put it into, or very close, to the hole (precision, VEM...).

That is not a challenge, it is just determination. And a waste of time.

I used to make 'notes' for putting competitions, but now I've played them so much at all speeds, they are more or less confined to memory, no 'notes' needed.  Practice doesn't make perfect in this case, but when you get your putts in the CTTH competitions down to less than roughly 4ft average over 9 holes, that's very good putting.  Try it wedgies.

We should have new putting challenges though.

Should be easy to implement, in the Cabo 3 click tournament, you can only use the 3 click meter.

As you say specify the flat iron, then well see who can putt??
