I was wondering how so many players could get so low scores on the putting greens in the putting tourneys.  Is this down to the accuracy of their wedge play?

If players are seeking an advantage by using the wedge in putting competitions here, -especially on very long putts- why have the putter in the bag at all if that's the case?

Although their is no rule against using any club on the green in real golf, if the wedge was used in the pro game to the extent that it's used on WGT, would it be tolerated if players were seen to gain an unfair advantage, ie: as in the long putter controversy?

It's called putting, not wedging.  Isn't it against the spirit  of the game?

I hope WGT do the right thing, and restrict players to using the putter only in 'putting blitzs'  and if possible,  in all WGT games.

I am considering starting a petition on WGT to try get this changed.  What do you think, would you sign it?

I'd sign a petition...to allow the rules of golf to be the rules of golf. I play the putting blitz a lot...and always use a wedge...a 9 iron on #8 and a driver on #9. I initially started doing it just because the putts got boring...and then I realised that it was a vey good warm up to the meter speed before an alt shot or stroke play. It also made for more options when confronted with long putts during rounds. Then I started to get pretty good at it. I've holed every one of them with a wedge/driver/iron at some point. My best is somewhere around 655k. I don't do it to mock people...I don't do it to get an unfair advantage (the wind can be a factor with wedges)....I do it because its now my warm up...and, I enjoy the different types of shots.  I play about 98% of them as just "scored"...and once in a while in a challenge. In a challenge, I always---always ask the other players if they mind if I use a wedge before the game starts...common courtesy becuase some players get pissy about it...but, I shouldn't have to...it is 100% legal on a real course...and 100% legal here...So, make your petition...and I'll wedge on. If anyone objects before the game starts...I leave with no ill feelings.

Oh, and that whole "spirit of the game"  thing...it's an online video game. if someone uses a 60" tv as their monitor when their opponent uses a laptop...is that in "the spirit of the game"...If someone uses R1 and R 11's vs a player who uses Raptures---is that in "the spirit of the game"...the "spirit of the game" is to be courteous, honest, self regulating...and to play within the rules...and the rules allow wedges anywhere.

One last funny note....In about 75% of the scored blitz's I play...sooner or later, at least one other player tries a wedge....

You make a very good argument. For banning the wedges in a putting blitz. The "Rules of golf" *** is completely irrelevant since a putting blitz, if it was held at the PGA tour, would have it's own rules and I am 100% sure the #1 rule would be to actually use the putter.

That said, wedges will not be banned, no matter how many would sign a petition, because they cant. WGT could earn millions by just allowing us to take out the PW from our Iron set and replace it with an expensive ATV or Callaway, but they are not able to twaek their software in that direction. Same problem with banning wedges in putting blitzes.

And you enforce my point even more.  You mention that the Rules of golf are completely irrelevant.....true...and so the only rules that matter are the rules of WGT...and it's within the rules....end of argument about "the rules".  Your comment about "If" the PGA tour hosted a putting event is also completely irrelevant...This isn't the PGA tour...so, what they "might" do is meaningless.

I have noticed the very same Duc.. Especially if I drop a couple really close or in with the wedge. They usually fail miserably, but I offer advice on the shot if they want it. I do it partly to see if I can and partly to break the boredom of putting. I think I have putter like 52.000 times here LOL. It's a game FCS...suck it up whiners who can't master the shot.

I spent hundreds of hours practicing it, and it is NOT an illegal shot ! I will use it whenever I feel like it.

same here Romax...if someone asks how to do it..or tries it...I'll give them tips...it is, afterall...a game.  I throw a driver in once in a while to change things up....as I play mostly scored blitz's...it harms no one else..if they take away the option...they take away the option.

Sure you will, an it will render all interesting putts useless since people will actually only putt the easy ones. Fully legal currently, but very boring since the whole point of designing that tricky putt was that is was a tricky _putt_. When using the wedge, all shots are basically the same.

Never mind, everyone may do as they please, both WGT and the players, but bringing up "the rules of golf" in defence for using a wedge and be allowed to use the wedge in the future, that is just lame.

Yeah...a pettion to change the "rules" must then be lame also...afterall, the OP was seeking to change the rules...I mean...what are they in place for..silly rules. perhaps they'll accept a petition to let people roll them like marbles..I mean, we wouldn't want rules to determine how a game can be played.    On a side note...I bet I'm better wedging than you are puttng.....off to the course and let's settle this the old fasioned way.....through nine holes of.....getting it closest to the hole....lol

In closing...if all wedge shots are the same...you try it and see what you score...ad, I don't need to defend myself...I've done nothing wrong. It is a video game...it's a click of the mouse contest...that's all it is.

Yeah, that is what golf is for many players on WGT. For others, the "old fashioned way" is to actually get the ball into the hole.
