I, like many others, will probably not play the 9 hole par 3 course very often but I am grateful for any new items on WGT. Sometimes boredom sets in and its nice to have a change, so this will be another option.

The question is...does this 9 hole par 3 course mean we won't be getting another 18 hole stroke play course this year?

I live within 30 minutes drive of 11 golf courses, 3 of which have hosted asian tour events, any of these courses would have thrown themselves at WGT for the exposure the game would bring them.

Good post Mikey and it is nice to have people putting forward objective posts. And I agree that obviously WGT will look at the financial viability of any new course(s) and that will often raise the red flag immediately.

I also agree with Barbarella, and that's why I was asking where the plan B is. For example, there are some great courses in Asia and elsewhere, including Thailand (in fact, when I lived in HK, I would fly there for a few days, play golf there as it was cheaper , but then I didn't have to pay for flights) that would love the exposure and with the economic downturn, many have struggled financially. As sadistic as this may sound, take advantage when you can.

Mikey and Barbarella, I would think that to be featured on WGT would be a marketing win-win for any course... simply elevating that course even more in the eyes of the golfing public.

WGT should, of course, cover the lost greens fees for the day of photography.

Beyond that there should be no negotiating.

Put me in with the disappointed crowd.  I thought adding new courses meant adding the WHOLE course, not just a snippit.  I avoid par 3 courses in real life just like I do on WGT because they are boring to me.  Big disappointment.  I also like how you said join other courses like Pebble and St. Andrews.  Even Pebble, my favorite course of all time, is a cheap/partial course here.  So lumping that one in as news is likely just crappy propaganda spin.....at best it's misleading.

That said, at least it wasn't a Tru course that charges us to play on a cartoon.

With all the negative press about the new par 3 course, WGT may pull the plug on it like they did the Tru-Golf courses.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's something new and isn't going to happen for six or seven months. Let's give it a chance.

Some of you remind me of that AT&T commercial where that little girl says,

"We want more, we want more, you really like it, we want more." lol!

    Doublemochaman:

You can go to the Bandon Dunes website and see every single hole.

That's what i was talking about , the pictures of each hole are just sketchy overhead views , hardly enough to base voting on , that's if anyone can be bothered trawling through all the holes .

I understand about all the trawling.  But the pics I found were very good, ground level, photographs... with a tidy description and yardage for each.

     It's another par 3 bore-fest.

And how many par 3 courses do we have? Of course this new course won't be ideal but any addition is an improvement.

Amen. It's not a full course, but will help Bandon Dunes showcase all of their courses instead of just the main one.

I'll bet there are a lot of win/win opportunities like this out there involving resort courses, who will find an excellent marketing audience in WGT members. (There's nothing really in it for the fancy private clubs, thank you.) As long as they are excellent courses, they certainly do not need not to be the venue for any major championships.

My guess is most of the membership will be under-whelmed ..to bad..very  disappointing.

    +1....................

Won't be bothering to vote, and not fanfare material in my book!
