Can someone please explain why backspin only works and draws the ball away from the hole if the shot is right near the hole, but if the shot is a touch long the the ball runs like it stole something. It does not matter which club or distance other than the proximity of where the ball lands in relation to the hole.

Is it just to make us require to buy the most expensive of balls to get consistency?

nah...I'd rather look at your irons for that, they're incredibly inconsistent..especially when using backspin.

I find this to be totaly true in all most all cases....land ball short of hole and it rockets back away from hole...land it passed the hole and it just stops....same BS on each shot, kinda hard to dial wedges in with this glitch.Once in awhile you will spin one back to the hole, but you better land it near the hole or else its gonna sit where it lands...

The wind may have something to do with it, in some cases you may be playing with a tail wind and going a little long and landing after the hole. In a tail wind you will get less backspin, hence finding that the ball stops dead instead of coming back. The opposite is also true, more spin with a head wind. So try and adjust according in these situations.

    Good Luck

Why are you even using extra backspin with the top level Cleveland wedges. With full and punch these wedges will stop almost where they land with no added spin or even a slight amount of top spin. Once you stop using backspin with the top Cleveland wedges they are extremely easy to dial in.

.  The only time I use added backspin with these wedges is chips pitches and flops and I don't even use it all the time on those.

I would say a lot of it is that on many holes the green slopes down, so landing in front of the hole you are often on a more severe downslope. But I spun a wedge backwards into the hole yesterday, so I'm not in total agreement with your statement

HL Cleve 64; FULL shot; FBS @ 66% = 32 yards.  Sometimes BS is good:)......Tip I got from a good player in these forum's............

Little bit when punching is useful to..........as is top spin for extra yard's.......Wedges need learning, as do the green's you are hitting them in to, but the exercise is obviously well worthwhile! Also ANY club should be experimented with so you understand it, and no real short cuts that one!

This is one of the reasons I am loving the no wind tournaments. Play with no wind, try different shots and spins (and balls). Then play the same course with "regular" wind conditions with those variations and compare. Tons of information to be had IMO, including the effects of spin.

Its after playing many shots like this one- (see replay) that made me realise one simple thing,... try it,.. anything,.. everything,.. when you find what works & works well for you , get your virtual a$$ back on the green stuff and play!!

whether this shot is possible in RealLife or not is irrelevant..  3Iron , full power & full backspin with wind in back ofcourse...  to bounce backwards on contact with the green,.. i aint complaining.. :)
