    brhthecarpenter:

ive had the lvl 98 r1 for a couple of months now, and i dont always outdrive my opponent everytime.i play with the max balls, the reason i love this driver is for its forgiveness and more often than not i wind up about 5 to 10 yards farther down the fairway. it took me a few games to see what backspin worked with certain winds and certain courses.     if you think your going to outdrive the r11 s everytime then dont bother with this club.

+1 ...played an alternate shot game recently where I was consistently outdriving a player using the R11s , with my G20 .... and if memory serves me rightly, she was using the same ball as I. Also played an alt shot game with a player using the R1... he was outdriving me, but not by a long way, and on Oakmont #9, I smoked one past him about 10 or 15 yards with topspin .... the yardages of these clubs, it should be pointed out, are so close, that depending on all the variables, the lesser club can outdrive the greater.

feel kinda sorry for anyone who's just bought the R11s lol

i feel even more pity for anyone with the l98 R1 who buys the black version. $34.95 for  a colour change.

it will benefit a lot of players who were about to buy the R11s though.

I recently bought the R11S but hated it for the too fast meter. I'm used to the G20. Today I sold back the R11S and picked up the Black R1. Superb club and the meter is exactly the same as the G20. I play on house money anyway(surveys and videos) so the cost doesn't mean anything. What a great day. :)

Did you buy it, play a few rounds, and decide you prefer the look of the white one? How can you comment on a club you haven't played?

By actually comparing it to mine. I've owned the 98 R1 since it came out and I know it. I had the good fortune to play 23 holes ( 9 AS and 14 AS)against a TL that just got it today and was using the Callaway (z) ball to my (s) ball. I would tell the R1 user what kind of spin he used AFTER he hit just based on the carry I saw him get. He learned quick and was hitting against the R11s with a 5 dot Nike and was the typical distance behind off the tee given the ball difference.

I didn't miss the points made because that's what looking at it wrong does-makes you unhappy. A few rounds later and the praises will come. They already have in the New Features thread.

Creamer444 mashes the ball (he was the p in those 23 holes) and has a really high fairway % with length. This driver won't impress him, he's already hitting the fairways and keeping up with both R1s. If you hit fairways routinely you won't be impressed. But if you're average off the tee this driver will rock that. Seen it firsthand.  :-)

Maybe a no brainer compared to the basic R11 then I hope..especially as I am so attracted to shiny stuff:)

I've used it today at Kiawah, Merion and BPB, and have to say it's a very nice cannon, a keeper for me.

Chrisironbones is talking out of his ass.

The R11s is a good driver for sure, but when I can see the difference in a handful of rounds, then there is no doubt this club will better your scores.

I am now hitting one to two clubs less to every hole. That is a big advantage, and of course always from the middle of the fairway, lol

I to was using the basic R11 and only a couple weeks from the R11s and a long time from level 98 R1 , so as you said , a no brainer , oh and yes , it is as good as stated

Hit em long, hit em straight (5 levels earlier)

One of my friends I play with regularly does this when he feels a round is going south on him. The first day he tried it, he had me in tears due to my laughing so hard, through all nine holes of that round. Yes, I am far too easily amused. Oh- he actually figured out the right distances to also use the 3W, and wedges. Hysterical.
