Was very windy yesterday at the Ocean Course.  1-4 play down the prevailing wind, but then when you turn aroound at #5, wow that is a rude awakening.  Then it stays into the wind until you turn around again on #14.

That tee shot on 17 I probably aimed 5 yards out into the pond, which is maybe 15 yards right of the pin.  Caught it just slightly thin and it came off a little lower than intended.  It cleared the wall by maybe 2-4 feet and released up to about 15-20 feet as seen in this photo.

Here is another one of my brother on the 16th tee, was really hard to keep phone still to record the video!  (which also made it really difficult to stay steady over putts).

Another thing to note, the greenside waste bunkers are nearly rock hard, found that out the hard way on #10, pin was front left, played a 5i to about 20 ft left of the pin, right against the foot high lip leaving no option but to try a standard explosion bunker shot.  Skulled it 15 yds past the green onto a downhill rough lie w/ the green running away,  Hit it right back into the same spot in the waste bunker :)  Solid triple after being 20 ft away in 2.

Despite conditions being very difficult from the 6800 yard Ocean tees, it was one of my most enjoyable rounds of golf.  Debating whether or not to tee it up from the tips today or stick with one set up again :)

Here is my card from yesterday, hope to better it today.

Very nice vids Sam, interesting to see in detail greens & wind,

Taken the opportunity and talking about wind, why is the wind random all the time in WGT courses?

For example St. Andrews, you get the wind from left to right, 90% of the next 8 holes have the same wind, I have played St. Andrews twice.

Is it that difficult for the technicians who program the game to find the real direction of the wind, especially with high winds?, In reality, as soon as you start your round (in high winds) there is only 1 direction of the wind in the hole course.

    Great thread btw, Eric

How much does knowing the course from here help?

    YankeeJim:

How much does knowing the course from here help?

Helped in a few spots, for example knowing how much of the corner to confidently cut on the #2 tee shot.  And knowing about the mulch area on 3 that would come into play with a driver but isn't visible from the tee, etc.  Had a caddy both rounds and they were really good about giving target lines and areas to avoid, so even without the WGT knowledge it would of been ok.

Todays round started off well with an E thru 3 start, but reality quickly set in after we turned into the wind.  Was +10 thru 13 when a torrential downpour set in.  Played the final 5 holes +10 after being soaked head to toe on the 13th hole.  They have a shuttle service to pick you up during rain delays, but we were the absolute furthest point from the clubhouse so instead we took shelter in the bathroom building between 13 and 14 where I took this video.

Few other pics/vids from the round

Tee shot on 3, pretty solid 3w down the center to 140, hit a 9i to 5 ft for the only birdie of my round.

Tee shot on 6, good drive just barely into the right rough.

The way way way back tee on 14.  Caddy said they built it for last years PGA champ, and only used it 1 of the 4 rounds, where there was 1 birdie carded all day that day!

Brother putting on 14 with the recently added green pond :)  Added at approximately 2:30 pm today to be exact.  Caddy has been there a long time (he was there for the WGT photo shoot) and said he'd never seen a pond there.

Short left of 16, luckily didn't hit it down there, just went down to take a photo, looks nasty!

Great place to enjoy a couple cold drinks after the round.

Scorecard.  Not toooo bad until we got completely soaked, was tough with wet gloves, grips, and waterlogged course.

Bollox... good thing you took refuge in the bathroom from the rain.  With that torrent coming down I'm sure it made you have to go pee.

What's your ghin handicap?  Guessing it's 5 - 8.  Kiawah, I'm sure, can be cruel to a handicap.
