I have enjoyed playing the game for 5 months. However, when you reach the master level playing is a chore. Yes, I realize that when one goes up in class  the various conditions  (wind, course, lies, etc) would become more difficult. But one's game should not be worse!  I did not forget how to putt--but the score shows otherwise. The problems with "swing meter" putting are magnified. In real life I am an excellent putter: If I want to make a7ft putt I will hit the ball seven feet, NOT 5 or 10. So why is the "game" changed for this game? All games have to have rewards--otherwise no one would play. But once you hit the Master level you are punished for what you have learned. Say what?! As I progressed in "real golf" my putting and ball striking improved, not so here. There seems to be a big disconnect. I am curious to know how many people quit playing the game when the reach Master. After all, it is supposed to be a game; and it should be fun. BTW, I never  pay more than 180 credits for a sleeve of balls. Perhaps that is my problem. Ripley

It's what is great about this game in my opinion. as soon as you master a tier it suddenly becomes harder. Just knuckle down and practice and you'll be fine.

If I could give you a bit of advice,  find a good country club with some players better than you.   Most will give you some pointers on how to manage the courses and some tips on playing this game.  I will also add that equipment is the key to lower scores and better balls with some spin are the most important part of that equipment.

I have played the game for over 16 months and I failed to improve until I became a member at a good club with helpful members.  I am a club owner and not trying to recruit you as our club is full but there are a lot of good clubs out there that you might want to check out.

    Thanks and good luck

How do you know to hit that putt 7 feet? More than likely from knowing the particular green speed you're playing on at the time. Is it that way every time you go out? No, you know it's not. No different here, your new everyday green speed is faster as a Master. Newsflash-it's even faster at TM, Legend and TL AND it changes during the week. Sound like the real thing?

Probabaly as many Masters that quit when they got to TM or TMs that quit when they got to Legend. See a pattern here? The quitters will quit because their comfort zone got invaded and the golfers will embrace the new challenge. Which one are you?  :-)

To start with, as a Master I'd pay 65 crs per sleeve => Tour-SDs :)

And yes, it's a big step in the game, the other being the step to Legend. Difference is, a TM knows quite well what is coming up, a TP may be unaware.

Truth is, approaches become longer and less precise, which makes putting difficult.

Truth is, too, that putting itself remains unchanged - it's still the same very fast greens (sorry, YJ), but - from longer distances usually.

I agree that the game is becoming far more difficult at that point, I do state that this bears the necessity of custom clubs - pling, pling, $$ in their pockets!

Alas, the fun is the same, no, a different type of good!

    Hit it str8 m8!

Great advice from everyone. All I can add is that I found the move from TP to Master the hardest. At the time I made master I had the nasty starters clubs  (and Tour Pro Driver) and found the new tees very hard.

But all it took was time and practice to adjust and in my case an upgrade of clubs. Yes it is harder but we need the challenge to keep our interest. And the challenges never stop as you continue to rise and is a constant learning curve but for me that challenge is the fun. If you want an easy game to play and master in weeks, then this is not the game for you.

As I approach TM level (hopefully this month), I really understand your frustration but disagree about the 'fun' part.  Yes, the first few months were not fun - because I wasn't trying to learn how to be a better player. I had WGT's figures on the range of my clubs, but I didn't realize that those figures lacked the accuracy requires to lower my scores.

Once I quit jumping between different balls, got some decent clubs (and 'mapped' them), started practice rounds to actually learn skills, took notes on each round, and joined a CC, the 'fun' came back!

Some of the senior level players will laugh, but it really feels neat to break 30 on BPB back 9 - likewise to play a A/S game with friends and sink a tough putt to save the hole for your team.

    To me, that is fun!

To all who responded: Thanks for your comments, suggestions, and encouragement.  I appreciate that there are so many interested respondents.

I still believe the game would improve immensely if WGT came up with a continuously variable swing meter -- instead of the choppy increments.

Swing meter, has been done to death (and I must admit I agree with many, perhaps even most of the complaints). As to moving to the Master tees that was my favourite time so far in my 'career'. I was getting bored and stale with the courses at TP level and they were much the same as they had been all the way from Hack, but now almost every hole was completely new, I  loved it, (and at times hated it too).
I use my own cold hard cash for this game as I'm not willing to waste my time at what I consider slave wages watching videos and I don't get surveys, so I had 'fun' shopping. I got me some new irons, (already had the wedges) and a good driver, and as well as learning the 'new' courses learned the new clubs. For me it was like finding a new game!

Remember frustration usually comes just before some enormous pleasure! ;-)

Just moved to Master so I feel qualified to speak here ....

Yes it is more challenging, but heck, that IS the fun! The game is so much harder that it is nearly like a new game all over again.

Approach shots that were +/-100 yards, resulting in a nice short putt (hopefully!) are now +/-175 yard approach shots, resulting in much longer putts.

I am really enjoying the chance to get better at these longer shots (had few enough of them at earlier tiers) and progressing in the game.

Accept that it is more difficult and enjoy the ride!!
