I know the best advice is to stay out of the sand, but I do occasionally end up there. I've seen some people say to flop, to use bottom spin, etc. I've tried them all. 20 yds or longer and I'm OK (50% of the time). Short sand shots are nightmares to me, as I either muff it, or hit 10 yds too long. I use a 60 wedge. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I've read the "tips" and am still awful. Thanks, Jay

I almost always use my 64 wedge punch shot. max is49 yds use bottom spin usually out 25yds or so little over half power it lands and stops. but if you don't use over half your ball will go 5 yds and stick in rough.   I don't use pitch much and the chip will be the death of you more often than not

If your in a bunker 15 to 20% a flop can get you out as long

as your not 2 far from the green.  30 to 40% i use a full shot 64 wedge.

if your 20 yrds or so i use about half of it hope this helps good luck.

OK, great. Thanks for the advice. I'll try this, too. Use the same method on a 8-12 yd shot out of sand? Again, thanks, Jay

There's some very comprehensive advice HERE.  Takes a bit of absorbing but good stuff.

It is possible to flop a 30%-40% but need add power and aim for a dinged shot, miss ding dont get anywhere up/out. Depending on how deep you are to the green a pitch is a good shot to use. I most use full and add about 10 on long distance, 10+ and 5 on shorter sub 10. If deeper lie its all practice to get close up from bunker, but possible with full shot to do!

Thanks for the link !!! That is very good advice, and a great starting point. Had to get my 2nd cup of coffee down and re-read it, as it was confusing at first, but now that I'm awake, it seems pretty easy to understand. Again, thanks. Jay

Everyone does it differently. Personally I nearly always use the full shot unless it's within 18 feet then I'll flop. I never pitch and hardly ever chip.
