David Leadbetter is one of the top instructors in the world of golf, and the new virtual golf instructor on WGT, providing golf tips exclusively for WGT players about real world and virtual golf.

David Leadbetter on Virtual Golf Course Management

Course Management is an often overlooked but critical aspect of golf. The key here is to think strategically and put yourself in positions where it is easy for you to score well.

We work with thousands of professional and amateur golfers at The Leadbetter Golf Academies, and the best way we've come up with for course management is to think about each hole backwards before you hit your tee shot. Break each hole down into your ideal putt, your ideal approach shot, and your ideal tee shot. One of my favorite parts of WGT is how easily you can use the Mini Map and the Zoom feature to check out the hole...wish we had that feature out on the real course.

Course Management is one area where I've discovered that virtual golf and real golf have a lot in common, so I'm excited to hear what WGT players think about this tip.

Leadbetter is teaching virtual golf? David L. does have a WGT account since 2010, but I'm not sure if it's the real David Leadbetter.

I think I'd rather get my virtual golf playing advice from dansamcam, notonthis, or Bollox instead. Thanks all the same David.

    David,

Course management barely needs to be considered with the Artificial Lies we play here. Any tee shot always lands on perfectly flat ground. It's nothing but long drives and darts to the pins.

Now real course management takes place in the Uneven Lies feature we have available to the members who embrace it. We have to learn the fairway geography of each course to maximize our ability to hit our approaches close to the pins. We have to learn to hit more club or use punch shots to counter the lies up and down hill. We have to learn to hit explosion shots from uphill bunker lies. Going for par 5's in two has to be thought out much more because the risks are much greater for disaster.

Course management starts with knowing the courses and only in Uneven Lies can the courses be learned from a geography standpoint.

Hit me up for a game of UL if you're up to it.  ;)
