Here's a prime example of the green speed for Merion being too slow. I'm sitting in the 5th fairway with 193 to the pin. You can see the wind and direction. I pull 3 wood, use full back spin with 100% power and have put the aimer exactly where I marked in the pic.

The result is a shot that can be stopped on the green with a starter 3wood. Boy I wish I could up the green speed for Merion. At least it should put smiles on faces after having played Olympic. ;)

I'm looking for a marker to start in the next 30 minutes if anybody can help...I might need a few minutes after first contact to get situated.

Wish I could help but I just practiced the front on Merion and I'm done for the night. Good Luck.

Round 3 at Olympic for BigInigoMontoya and ColumbusStorm

tournament speed greens at Olympic with starter putter/ball is brutal. I don't believe wgt intended the starter gear to be used on tournament speed greens....lol

I really think all the different/difficult conditions make this a very interesting tournament. Again thank you for running these.

There seems to be a bug (or something) in the putting stats. I did not 3 putt on Olympic, but my stats claim I 3 putted twice. My total putts says 31 but 5x1putt + 11x2putts + 2x3putts = 33 putts. I used my putter twice from the fairway instead of chipping. WGT probably counted those as my two 3 putts, but not in my total putts. Just something to be aware of.

Storm and I finished up at Olympic a couple hours ago.  I absolutely fell apart on the back 9 faster than a wet paper sack, including a brutal 3 hole stretch where I was a full 4 strokes on the unhappy side of Par!!!!!! Thankfully I was able to limit the damage on the front 9, finishing with a respectable 77, just one stroke behind the Tour Legend Storm.

Hole 1: We're both 87-89 yards out for our third shot.  Storm went absolutely nuts, and landed one exactly 0.5inch from the pin.  I tried to save a replay, but I ended up getting the replay of my 2nd shot.  FAIL, lol.  Anyways, not to be outdone, I hit a pitching wedge to 1.6 feet, and we both tap in for Par. http://www.wgt.com/replay.aspx?ID=4f736777-8f18-48d2-b902-a24d0013d231

Hole 2: I miss long from 147 yards out.  Storm missed short left from 145.  Storm pitched to 6.5 feet and saved Par.  I pitched to 5.4 feet, didn't play enough break, and pushed it wide for a 2 putt bogey.

Hole 3: We both find the green.  Storm 40 feet Pin high to the left, Inigo 26 feet below right.  Both 2 putt for Par.

Hole 4: Inigo misses short from 145.  Storm rolled off the back of the green from 139.  Storm putts from the fringe, comes up 12 foot short, and 2 putts for a bogey 5.  Inigo is able to save par after a great up and down. http://www.wgt.com/replay.aspx?ID=ac8d5837-8f99-4af7-836e-a24d001a32c7

Hole 5: We hit nearly identical tee shots to find the fairway.  Inigo has the honors on the approach.  Our lie was a right to left slope, with a fairly strong right to left cross breeze to boot.  Despite aiming well right of the green, the ball makes an absolute bee line for the front left bunker immediately after contact.  Storm follows suit by finding the rough just in front of the bunker.  We're both on in 3, and we 2 putt for a bogey 5.

Hole 6: We both miss short left once again.  Storm 2 putts from 12 feet for a bogey, while Inigo lands a wedge inside 5 feet to save Par. http://www.wgt.com/replay.aspx?ID=4bdf81fc-a381-4bfd-a5cf-a24d001def15

Hole 7: Don't let this short and gentle looking Par 4 fool you.  You absolutely can't miss short, you really don't want to miss long, and if you are hitting your 2nd with a tailwind, it is extremely difficult to find the upper level of the green but still keep the ball below the hole.  Naturally, WGT decides to give us an 11mph tailwind here. >_<  Storm finds the green from the left rough 66 yards out, while Inigo is on from 55 yards out in the fairway.  We both 2 putt for a disappointing par.

Hole 8: Inigo lands a 4i 33 feet below the hole.  Storm finds the green but got too much roll out, ending up 6 yards Pin high to the right in the rough.  He pitches on to 13 feet, and drains it for a well earned Par. Inigo 2 putts for his par as well.

Hole 9: Both find the green but well short of the hole.  Storm 2 putts from 50 feet for Par, Inigo 2 putts from 40 feet for par as well.

Hole 10: Both are on the green but well behind the hole.  Storm 2 putts from 40 feet for Par, Inigo 2 putts from 20 feet for par.

Hole 11: We both miss short, Inigo from 173 and Storm from 171.  Inigo pitches to 1.4 foot to save Par; Storm misses by mere inches from 12 feet for a bogey.

Hole 12: Inigo's 'Trilogy of Errors' begins here on the Par 4 12th.  Storm misses short and right, while Inigo rolls onto the green 42 feet past the hole.  Storm lips out from 5.6 feet for a bogey.  Inigo rolls his 3rd a good 4 feet past the hole, and once again the break gets him as he rolls it just past for a 3 putt bogey 5.

Hole 13: We had drawn a strong headwind on every hole to start the back 9 IIRC.  Our luck runs out on the 13th, as we get a 14mph left to right tailwind.  Inigo missed Pin high right in the thick rough -- one of the absolute WORST places to be on this hole, while Storms lands one short, got a members bounce, and rolls to 38 feet on the green.  Inigo chunked it on his second, and the balls goes all of 2 or 3 yards to stay in the rough.  After pitching to 14 feet with his 3rd, Inigo 2 putts for a double bogey 5.  Storm hits a tricky par save from 5 feet below the hole for an excellent Par.

Hole 14: We both miss short.  Inigo 15 yards well short in the fairway, Storm missed short left in the rough.  Inigo underclubs the pitch for his third, and 2 putts from 12 feet for bogey 5.  Storm hits a brilliant 3rd from a nasty lie to 2.4 feet, and taps in for a great Par.

Hole 15: We both find the green, but are a good 20 to 30 feet behind. We both 2 putt for par.

Hole 16: This time it was Storm who found himself in trouble.  After a badly missed ding off the tee to find the rough and punching out to the wrong side of the fairway, Storm shanked one left on his 3rd and nailed a large tree.  He was able to punch out from the woods to roll off the back of the green with his 4th.  He attempted to putt from the fringe, but it took off on him and he ended up 25 feet past the hole.  2 putt from there for a disappointing 7.  Inigo missed long with his 3rd, but was able to get up and down to save par.

Hole 17: A bad drive by Inigo finds the left rough, but he is able to punch back to the fairway after a lucky bounce and roll.  Hitting 7i from 117 yards out into a headwind to a 31foot elevated green, Inigo comes up well short, underclubs on his pitch once again, and 2 putts from 9.4 feet for bogey 6.  Meanwhile, Storm hit a brilliant 3rd to 7.4 feet pin high left, and drains it for our first -- and only -- Bird of the round.

Hole 18: We both hit 8i into the elevated green.  We both hold the green and 2 putt for Par to close out at 76 and 77 respectively.

I'm absolutely certain that I had a shot from the 17th fairway and a bag shot from the 18th green, but apparently they got pasted over prior to me having saved them so they were unfortunately lost.  Sorry Corwyn. :(

U must have the memory of n elephant, or else u r taking notes.

It is all I can do to focus on the next shot and taking the screenshots.

In fact I am pretty sure it was the distraction of worrying about the screenshots from hole 12 onwards that buggered up my round.

I am still fuming over it.

In practice I was never worse than +3

At Merion I'm gonna do the lot on Hole 1

You gotta be kidding me.  Merions greens are frickin mountains.  They CANNOT possibly be too slow, only too fast.

    Corwyn:

Oh rats! That's my fault. I meant to post a reminder of Inigo's prize when posting the pairings and conditions... and completely forgot with everything else going on.

How about this? If nobody betters your 12 foot ctth distance, I'll throw in an extra sleeve for you!

Thanks but its ok. I play for fun so keep it as it was :)
