I am close to Master tier and now that I have a 275 yard driver. Should i stay at Tour Pro awhile and hone my skills some more or, just take the jump and start getting use to the different tee's My driving is pretty good, my iron work is ok, but needs improvement, my short game around the green saves my butt alot since my "GIR" is kinda bad, my putting is coming along. So any advice from a Master or above would be appreciated. Thank You in advance.

Oh, and just to add. I use the starter ball and am gonna stick with them so i do not go broke buying balls.

IMO make the jump and begin learning the new yardages for your approach shots. You have the tools and the master tier is fun!

You may change your mind on the balls though.

Staying at an artificially low tier is called sandbagging. :-)

Two weeks ago, I would have said "go for it". Now...with my own recent experience, I might say pump the brakes and enjoy the scenery. The jump to Master is a big one and IMO you should be routinely shooting sub-65 at TP before tiering up, otherwise the added course length could push you back close to 70.

And like AlanIce said, you might invest in some quality balls. The Callys are amazing. I couldn't believe the difference when I first started using them.

Turning in three digit scorecards is sandbagging. So is playing no RRs...but there are honest ways to keep your average in check(off the top of my head...playing Oakmont and Olympic exclusively would do it.)

    Level 52  XP 61915

    Level 59  XP 88515

I am the world's worst for saying go for it so bear that in mind.

Your tools are adequate, and L59 sees the first high trajectory iron set being the Ping G20s, are more than on the horizon. These should be thought of a must IMO - superb buy as will see you in to Legend and the L79 Bladez.

If you were in a CC I would say play some Par 3 tourneys for 400XP a pop to really eat it up, in conjunction with daily XP (one hole does that via Golf Courses in the Community Link).

B of Par 3 / 5 will also NOT affect your average score.  There is nothing in the rules saying don't just play those a while.  Sandbagging is only an issue when scumbags artificially manipulate to win credits, not some dude happily getting used to his tier for a little time really before for the next one.  Tiering up before the correct equipment is available can lead to angst for the player to. Word of warning - don't go beating higher tiers (or is it just Legends - not sure on that 1) in MP as that will shoot you through the ranks at an alarming rate:)

I agree on the ball as referred to above.

Good luck on your path however you choose to play it.

I suppose I am a similar position as you Rooster.  Currently have a stroke avg of 67.44, with 275 ranked rounds to my name.  But I don't know how many of those were logged as a Tour Pro, or if it includes any of my Par3/Par 5 rounds.

My own personal approach to this game has been to gain levels and XP as fast as I can, but I don't necessarily wan't to 'tier up' as fast as I can. I think I will be competent at the Master tier once I reach level 79, but I won't feel fully comfortable tiering up until I reach level 81.  My opinion on this game is you shouldn't let your tier outpace your equipment, and I still have several upgrades I want to make before tackling the Master tees.  In most cases I have the credits to do so, I just haven't reached the required levels.

Try doing both. Play some practice rounds from the next set of tees forward and turn up the green speed to see what it's like. You might be surprised at your own ability to handle it.

Another thing I read here quite a lot. Stop fixating on your average. It's a meaningless number that distracts players from just playing and enjoying their rounds. Some quit rounds and some add a couple of strokes for that stupid number.  You'll move up in tier when it happens but playing to that number in the top left of the screen isn't going to bring you the enjoyment that this game has in it if you seek it. It's not a race and you can't get to the next tier late.

Have a little fun and GL.

^^^^ yes I agree. Don't get caught up in the numbers game and forget to have fun. Some very good players play with clubs that a lot of us  would consider inferior. Learn the clubs you have every aspect, find out how good you can get with what you have before you buy better clubs. GL

All your TP rounds are still in your stroke history, just strip off the blitz/CTTH/Par3/Par5 rounds.

When you change tier, you might want to note the total no. of ranked rounds from your stats - helps a lot from Legend up!
