Here is the letter I just wrote to WGT regarding lost balls:

A lost ball on the 18th hole at Olympic in the weeds ???

    Really ????

I have written to you many times in the past about how your lost ball policy is the only downfall to this wonderful game.  But I have accepted most of it.  If I hit a bad shot into the water or the ocean, I get it.  I deserve to lose the ball.  But weeds ????  Come on now.

At the very least here is what you should do for your
customers (most of them paying customers like myself)

We all know where the water is and that if a ball goes in it gets lost.  That's obvious.  It's not obvious at all which area of weeds will eat your virtual golf ball.  So I would suggest that WGT put some information out on holes where balls can get lost.  And put where on the hole the ball will be lost if you hit it there.

I, for one, had NO IDEA that I could lose a ball on the 18th hole of Olympic (or anywhere on Olympic) for that matter).

After reading your replies to my emails about lost balls in the past, you have at least convinced me that some of the lost balls should be part of the game.  But you will never convince me that losing balls in weeds should be a part of this game.

Please at least make it fair for your customers.  Stop taking balls that are ht into the weeds, or at the very least tell us where the weeds are that will eat the golf ball.

    Thank you.

If you hit a ball 300yards into an area of deep rough I doubt you'd find it. You'd be lucky to even find the spot where it landed. Not taking sides just a thought.

It's dopes like you that cause problems on blogs and
forums.  Instead of trying to enter into an intelligent
debate you would rather insult and belittle people.

You do this because you have no argument to put forth and
thus you immediately lose the debate and any opinions
    you have are rendered irrelevant.

And for your information there are MANY on here that don't
think there should be any lost balls for ANY reason.  So
I am far from alone in my opinion.  And after reading
WGT's replies to some of my contact with them, I have
    softened my stance.

As for your insulting post...go crawl back under your rock
or retreat to your mom's basement.

The operative word in your post is "doubt".  Since you are comparing the virtual world with the real world, in the real world you have a chance to retrieve your ball.  In WGT there is NO CHANCE.

As in real golf you can lose a ball on any hole if you miss the fairway - especially in heavy rough on a course like a US Open course. Pros are lucky they have cameras and gallerys that can find the ball after an errant shot. An average player can't and trying to locate the exact spot in five minutes is not so easy. And sometimes you can even see your ball like at St Andrews but the gorse will shred your arm trying to retrieve it. or in Hong Kong you will not venture into some areas of rough because it is a known King Cobra haunt. Heck I have even lost a ball hitting dead straight on the fairway which is blind, only to get there and no ball to be found (usually kids nicking them) and once I saw a monkey swoop and take the ball (that was a consulting the rule book moment lol - and I am not trying to give WGT ideas on devious ways to take our balls!

I am lucky that I have played golf on some top courses all around the world, and often when you find heavy rough you will not find your ball. BUT you will often find other balls from other players who have suffered the same fate. SO again I think it would be easy enough to program a random ball of random life for those players who do suffer a "lost ball". I think this would be a fair compromise and would more simulate real life golf.

Obviously the key is to keep the ball on the short stuff, but we all occasionaly get metered or have a finger fart and I still think this would be a fair way to address this issue - no it wont please everyone but IMO it is fair.

An idea that needs pushing to the limits.

Im all for a lucky dip scenario, it doesnt have to be everytime you go into the rough/fescue/weeds ..Just a random pop up "Youv'e found a ball" would be nice, even if its one of alanti's chewed up Callys with 10 hits left or it could be the brand new Nike i lost 3 months ago lol....

Unless the player is given an option to refuse to accept such a ball I see this proposal as a nightmare for players. We're already seeing a large number of threads from people who complain about the odd ball cluttering inventory that they can't get rid of by using it in conjunction with other types of balls in a practice round. Imagine what will happen when thousands of players have 30 different balls in inventory, each with 10-20 hits left on them.

On a real course we have the option to inspect that ball we find, electing to keep it, throw it away or leave it there for someone else to find. Same would have to happen here or we will see nothing but complaints about it.
