    Crowfl56:

I thank you for the kind response's.  I believe in my haste and frustration I wrote this rant poorly.

What I wanted to say is: 1st I have been a golfer for more than 40 yrs and still haven't gotten into the single digit handicap, LOL.  In this game if you use chip, pitch, or flop, your lie is say 30-40% you expect a certain amount of penalty for your lie, plus a penalty if you hit to soon or to late.  This I respect. But, when you hit the center line and with the power you wanted you should expect to hit the ball somewhat properly?  Well you don't, and the frustrating part is when you hit the ball properly and it goes 2 in. that just shouldn't happen.

The shots that have been going to long or to short were full shots with a variety of clubs, again hit full power and center line.  Why would there be such a difference in length?.

Again thank you for your patience.

Could you ditch the Hybrid and get another wedge? That might help you around the green.

Many here feel that WGT screwed with the game dymanics or VEM or however you discribe it. THey fk'ed it up in other words. I don't think I'm a good enough player to say one way or the other whether wgt changed the playing conditions. But it does seem harder to gage distances latley.

Hang in there and keep practicing, you will improve around the greens and you will get better. I'm pulling for you.

Usually when a ball fly's 20 yds over the green, the caddy has picked the wrong club for you.  Kinda like hitting the wrong putting meter.  I've done it so much we call it a tubbs special in our club.  As for a shot going 2 inches, only thing I can think of is if your trying to chip to far from the green.  I very rarely chip,  but pitch and flop quit often.  Also, when you have those distances where your between clubs, try a punch, even with the wedges.  And like Mr. Bubba said, most folks carry 3 wedges, and no hybrid.  Just my 2 cents, hope it helps some.

That sounds right to me, throw in some Merion rough and I'd say case solved.

My guess is you're trying to chip from the rough?  That's one of those WGT oddities, it just doesn't work.  A chip is only ever worth considering if you're very close to the green on fairway or fringe.  Personally I never use it.  If I'm off the green and have between 10 and about 43 yards I play a punched 64 degree wedge, for under 10 yards I pitch.  Very occasionally I use the flop shot but only if there's an obstacle between me and the flag and I need the ball to stop real quick.

This is of course only one way to approach the game, I know plenty of people who use punch all the time and never pitch.  What works for you is what counts, not what works for someone else.

My advice would be to find which shot gets you close most reliably and stick with it, swapping shots and clubs will only lead to doubt and confusion.  When I have a shot between 10 and 40 yards I know I can reach for the 64 wedge and (usually) leave at worst a 3 or 4 foot putt.

Use practice mode to get close to a green, then mess around with different shots using mulligans if you don't mind wearing out balls.  Don't be tempted to use the free ones or cheaper ones than you usually play, you need to know what happens when you hit a shot with your usual equipment.

Stick with it, I'm sure those 40 years of real life golf taught you how much patience this game needs.
