I'm just looking for information, not advocating membership one way or the other.  I was invited to one, and will likely join, but I don't know what's involved with it and can't find any info on the forums.

What are the benefits to joining a club?

    What are the responsibilities?

Is there a cost associated with joining?

You're apparently begging the question, since you are a member of a CC. For giggles, I'll treat your question as though it came from someone not so inclined.

1 Better multi play. Folk are unlikely to quit after you drop your approach to the first hole to around 3 ft.

2 Sound advice. Assuming you find a club with experienced players.

    1 None really.

2 Secondarily, participating in well thought out competitions. You won't believe how imaginative some folk can be.

1 Can't speak for others, but the only cost to me so far has been the limits of my own generosity.

Personally, I know that I'd never have even continued with this game had it not been for the support of a good CC.

In short. There is no downside.

Jim above me pretty much pointed out the significant advantages in joining a country club.

Choosing the right one that fits YOU is equally important.  I actually ventured out into the WGT world for the first time today in a looooong time to play some of Novembers tournaments purely because i had been fortunate enough to qualify for our month end finals already in previous weeks and the early part of the week is the weekly qualifying tournaments we have for the month end final.

Country Club tournaments keep me busy pretty much all week, coupled with the social aspect, camaraderie etc...I've often found myself logging on for long hours and not even playing.  just chatting with fellow members etc.

There's no cost as far as i know, as Jimbeau said, only the limits you place on yourself.  A lot of the tournaments at Southern are sponsored  by its members, some of the prizes won in the short  few months since Southerns inception have been quite staggering.

I guess the only responsibility you would have would be to be a good member?  in that , i mean respectful and reasonably active.  IMO, the whole point of joining a country club is to expand on the experience that WGT offers, i see no point or value in becoming part of an online community if you only plan on playing WGT tournaments.  that's obviously my own opinion and i'm sure there is a valid counter to it :)

disregard everything written above and read the quote below :)

In our club all we ask is for people to be friendly and active. In return for this you get to meet 249 other members up close and lots of tips and offers of help. On top of that you get a couple of dozen extra tournaments where there are no sandbaggers or cheaters so you have a much better chance of winning and a busy forum to talk nonsense on. We even gift equipment now and then to worthy members. Clubs are great :-)
