Not the best looking clubs, I agree...but they get a bit prettier when you can hit a 3-iron approach that holds the green on BPB #4 and leaves you 11 ft from the back pin for an easy eagle.

    ;-)

Since I am still a few months (270k + xp's) away from the level 97's- gave the Level 85's a spin- so far- love them(with Nike balls)...ding, ding, ding and none of that late-hit stuff so common with R11's.

Just as precise, plenty of spin with good ball, and many clubs are just as long as R'11's- spin or no spin. 3 iron- 245/220/230- neutral/bs/1/2 back for instance. PW--same. 9 iron- 130 bs (same)- 8 iron- actually count on 145 -and stop- full back- unlike R11. 7 iron- 160 f/b- same; 6 iron shorter but stops dead at 170 full back. 5 iron- 190 f/b- same. 4 iron - 205 f/b- or ease up get 210-stop- like R11.

Oh did I mention DING? lol - any ooff-hits are slight- unlike R11's- so:

G-20 meter- R-11 accuracy, pretty much R-11 spin (actually more with Nike ball than with Max or Callaway slow meter ball)...and can hit all the same shots- are they level 97-s --no. Are they easier and more fun to play than R-11-s - most definitely.

Same boat as me more or less XPs wise.

Overall I am waiting til L97, and take another view then. OR get rushed into a decision by a limited edition version at 500+ credits more:).....

Tough one as that VEM devil exists.  I was playing an 18 hole  RG yesterday. Going along great then missed a couple on the B9 to finally kill any real glory chance.  Now with the approach shots that lead to misses they were ding misses in fairness.  I certainly had the full wrath of missed ding vengeance cast on me, but it was a miss. Now putting I missed two long putts with my L70 Versa.  Both putts were pretty level, just breaking ever so slightly at the end.  Both times my putts just veered a fraction more than I allowed.

On the F9 of that RG I only missed 1 putt Beth 7, pin right. Would those new L97 irons allow me to fire closer more often if I wanted to really take that pin on? Would that L96 Versa really give me that little extra precision with the long scale scale I like. Basically could they have turned my 57 that round to a 55 ...........Huge if combined they might now and then.  Lot of frikin wonga to find out when they introduce specials at whatever extra:)...

And.... that is just it Jim. Could they??

I have my doubt on that mate. I just beat a bunch of players in a ready go that all have the high level Nike irons. OOO... did i say most had the high level putters too..lol.

If that was the case.... how would i have chance, i don't even play Nike ball... whooped up on some pretty good players too......lol. Nope when its your turn,, its your turn. When its not,, its not...period.

I could shoot a 26 right now.... then turn around and struggle to break 30. I don't think new irons is going to solve that problem.

Don't get me wrong... those irons might be a touch better,,, but can they overcome the Vem that is being dished out.

Just from a few ready goes....... and looking at the WD's.... don't look like they handle Vem well....lol.

Looks like the R11's have gone from the most expensive irons a couple of months back to the best buy for your buck nowadays ?

A bit like the auld L39 64* Satin wedge..lets hope for newer players they don't go the same way.....

Replaced by a same stat, but obviously inferior version and with a price hike !

Yes sir... i think you would be correct.

All the better players know what i am talking about. When the Vem jumps on you,, it doesn't matter what irons you got.

Sooo.... when the Vem jumps on them,,, my R11s whip their azz......lol.

    My turn now.....lol.

    You feel me??

Edit:  The reason i only play enough ready goes to pay for balls. If i thought skill was winning..... i might play a bunch more...... but... we all know the scoop.

Well that is entirely possible.  Problem for WGT is that L97 is so far away that if that was the first chance you had to really compete it's nuts, and who coming in would bother waiting that long?

My gut feel is that (as chrisironbones said) the game has reached a threshold.

Once those top players have time to get the irons bedded in it will be interesting, but beyond L90 (? at most now) the rest may well be just window dressing.  No one genuine shoots low all the time, but the real top players get themselves in the mix more often, and that's all I can strive for.  Certainly they understand more putts, and more approaches than I do, and I accept that.

I may well end up buying the new kit then wondering (know it already LOL) why? Getting to beyond the point where flash is looking a good vehicle still.  Combine that with real lack of shot shaping, and no built in penalty for missing when using that last 10% of power it leaves, too often, only the randomness of VEM to separate crazy low scores of the top players.
