MainzMan: I am fully aware of how hypercritical this is given that I used the method posted by CJ to get to L97 quickly.
Aye MainzMan, I don't think your actions fit what hypocrisy is (unless you're using a different definition from common dictionaries).
From Dictionary.com:
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
I'll tell a story that I just thought of to better illustrate why I don't think hypocrisy fits you in this case.
A man and his faimily wanted to vacation to Germany; their destination was the capital of the German state Rhineland-Palatinate.
They boarded the plane that they presumed was correct, and while waiting to take off, they fell into a short sleep. They did not hear the pilot's announcement that the plane's destination was Brazil!
After finally getting all the way back from Brazil, the man and his family went to the correct terminal and were about to board the correct plane when they noticed another man who also wanted to travel to Germany about to board the same plane to Brazil. The man and his family quickly intercepted the other wayward traveler and kindly alerted him of the mistake.
After hearing the man explain how he knew that was the wrong plane, the wayward traveler exclaimed to the man and his family in front of everyone at the airport, "You hypocrite!!!" "The whole bunch of you hypocrites! How DARE you try to tell me what is right!" "You took this plane too!" The wayward traveler continued and boarded the wrong plane and arrived at the wrong destination.
In the story, even if the vacationing man was a hypocrite (and he was not), the other man should not have been so ridiculous to ridicule a person trying to help him avoid disaster.
From what I've experienced a lot, people are using the word hypocrite to describe something that the definition does not even speak of. They're usually using the word hypocrite in a context that describes someone who has lived, learned a better path to take, and then tried to help someone else avoid the same mistakes.
Many times I hear people needlessly condemning others and even themselves for being "hypocritical" when they are not. I believe that they do not clearly understand what the significance of that word has indicated through history.
For those whose first language is not English and the current younger generation, the original significance of the word "hypocrite" may never have even been thoroughly understood.
I hope this helps.
Einen guten Rutsch!
