    6 April

    Tribute ...

Just got to give it up for "the Okie from Muskogee" who turns 77 today ... Happy Birthday Merle!  I picked a few videos for today's tribute.  I sooooo could have picked more ... My first car (a 'eff me red' 71 El Camino SS with a 454) ... named "Merle" in his honor!  I sooooo miss Merle ... the boyfriend ... not so much!

    Actors/Actresses:

    • Candace Cameron is 38
    • Paul Rudd is 45
    • Michael Rooker is 59
    • Billy Dee Williams is 77
    • Zach Braff is 39
    • John Ratzenberger is 67
    • Marilu Henner is 62
    • Eliza Coupe is 33
    • Diora Baird is 31

and in 1930, the Hostess Twinkie was invented!

    Tribute tunes ...

Here's an old clip of Merle I found while youtubin' his tunes.  I really enjoyed his Marty Robbin's impersonation:

Now this tune is undoubtedly his most famous ...

And last, the song that dubbed the '71 "Merle" ... I vividly recall the night we took 'Merle' around the block for his maiden cruise after getting him running.  That motor just sang, begging to suck down a few gallons of gas.  When we got home, we turned on the radio and the following song came on ... with a 454 CC motor, the name 'Merle' just fit ... man could that car drink!  Enjoy:
