    Thanks Kat!

    April 14

1865 - On an evening at Ford's Theater in Washington DC, as famed actress Laura Keene ( a little long in the tooth and fond of drink), and others performed the comedy "Our American Cousin". Present was President Abraham Lincoln. At 8:15pm, actor John Wilkes Booth quietly entered the private box, aimed a derringer at Lincoln's head and fired a ball into Lincoln, just below and behind his left ear with the ball lodging behind his right eye-socket. Our beloved President was dead by 7:15am.

1912 - The British liner RMS Titanic found an iceberg in the North Atlantic at 11:40pm ship's time and began sinking. 2 hours and 40 minutes later it was done. 1,514 souls were likewise all done.

1578 - Philip III, King of Spain & Portugal

1629 - Christian Huygens, Astronomer, discovered Saturn's Rings

1866 - Anne Sullivan, educated Helen Keller

1889 - Arnold Toynbee, England historian (Study of History)

1897 - Claire Windsor, American Actress

Catchin' up today on what all I missed on the Birthdays the last 5 days or so. (busy wrappin' up the taxes and watching the Masters plus a few other threads here and there...)

Great piece on Thomas Jefferson SP! Very few people write personal letters anymore in this communications age.  We have a few friends who write their annual Christmas letter with the year's events and greetings.  But that's about it. It's a lost art and I'd wager only a few bright and clever people on these forums,  like Sweetiepie and Lizzie, still send a letter or two these days.

Hey!  Anyone spot me on tenor sax in the Al Green video??

It is the way of it. I love them. You can hold them, re-read them, admire the paper used, the type of pen and ink and the style of the writing. Then, you can save them and do it all over again ~SP ~
