    I'll try.......

    1.  If a Master shooting from Master tee's and a TL shooting from TL tee's average the same score then they should have the same handicap.  Therefore all other considerations should go off of this "Master Statement" and no adjustments should be necessary.  Maybe I am missing something but it just seems right to me.  Like you said, my club is almost all Legends and TL's so I'm not an expert.  If you get into this area then you also have to start including things like equipment availability.  The TL will "usually" have an edge in equipment...but not always, so then you gotta factor all that in.  Your average against my average takes all this out....Think that answers #2 as well.

Now, here is where my system really differs from what you are trying to do............

I only use 4  18 hole Player of the Month rounds to determine my handicaps.  I rotate through all 8 true courses so every 2 months we play 1 round on each.  It takes 4 rounds for the initial handicap (arbitrary #) and from then on I calculate handicaps after each completed POTM round.  This means I only update 4 times a month, not every round played.

We mostly play scratch events but when I do use the handicaps my -12 handicap player actually stands a chance of beating my +2 player and, it can work in almost any format.

4 rounds versus best 10 outta 20 or more???? I'll take the 4 rounds.  Accurate?  Again I say, close enough for a tight group of friends that REALLY don't sweat it and THAT is the important part.  Besides, if there ain't ***-n, there ain't no forum posts....lol

    Mike,

    P.S. you ignored my invite.......lol

I think it's time I stuck my oar in, as I initiated communication with Kat, purely to try and implement a system in my CC, Bags & cobaltm notwithstanding, to have a very simple , pretty and comprehensively accurate leaderboard system for tournaments that spread across 8 single 9 hole rounds.

I was hoping to present the complete package to the Boss, and have him appoint me tourney & handicap manager as gratitude for relieving him of all the tedious leaderboard preparation he has to do, and then getting slammed in the CC forum, becuase he has 12th place player sitting at the top of his list.

    LMAO

I guess my hope for getting a sleeve every week as a salary, has taken a serious nosedive.

Sometimes even the best intended ideas go down like a fart in a spacesuit.

Dammit, I thought I grounded him......John.....no sleeves for you.......

The USGA (GHIN) uses the best 10 of 20, and handicaps are released twice a month ... on the 1st and the 15th.  There should be too much major "trending" in a 15 day period.  I'd suggest a minimum of once a month.  Just stay consistent.

Once you've released your handicap, it should be (1) made public and (2) static until the next revision date.  This date should be predetermined by the CC Owner or by committee.

Here's how the program would work, step by step ...

    1. load member's profile
    2. load "Scoring History" for said member
    3. highlight all data within the player's scoring history and [Right-Click]+[Copy] or [Ctrl]+[Ins}
    4. run the program
    5. log the calculated handicap.

Is copying the scoring history the only way to load the data or will you have the option to manually load individual round scores?  That way the hcp can be based only on a particular set of tournaments if the CC desires.

If you copy all the player's scoring history will your program exclude scores from the Best of Par 3 and Best of Par 5 courses?

Are scores from Uneven Lie rounds handled the same as scores from Even Lie rounds?

If the "tournament manager" is allowed to manually change a player's handicap will it always be made public in the published results? (I see Baggs slipping sleeves of balls to the manager on a regular basis)  ;o)

I am wondering about this as well.

I think Cobalt is right. One of my members is master and he has a lower handicap than me, -a legend-  based just on the required scores he submitted..

The perfect scenario would workout if all tiers played in all the club credit t's they are graded to, but that's unlikely to happen.

Doin the spreadsheet seems like a lot of work for one person.  I'm putting my trust in my members to do the maths based on the GHIN system and provide me with their handicaps.  Fingers crossed.

This is a great idea professor.  What I'll do is have 2 different routines: (1) upload scores and (2) Calculate Handicap.

Currently, when the scores are uploaded, I place them on a temporary spreadsheet, gather the 20 last scores, then sort these scores in lowest-to-highest score.  I then pick the top 10. The change I'll make is when gathering scores, I'll put all the "Front 9", "Back 9" and "Full 18" scores on the temp spreadsheet.  At this point, the user can go through the spreadsheet and put any character into a column I'll label as "Exclude".  If you put any valid character (ASCII 0 - ASCII 255) in this field, the score will not be used.  If you don't put anything in the cell, the score will be used.

This will allow the CC owner or Handicap Chairperson the ability to exclude uneven lies tourneys from the handicap, along with par 3 and par 5 scores.  Currently, I'm scanning the tourney description for "Par 3" and "Par 5".  If the description contains this in the tourney description, it's not used.  I do not, nor can I exclude "Uneven Lie" tournaments from the handicap, since these are not distinguished in the player's scoring history. (By the way, I don't really see a par 5 score getting placed in the top 10 scores, unless the player has been playing nothing but par 5 scores for their last 20 rounds).

Now, if this is changed to a two-phase routine from it's current one-phase routine, the CC Owner/Handicap Chairman can exclude selected tournaments.

    I love it!  Thanks!

PS:  Cheap-azzed Baggs has yet to slip me a sleeve of balls ... he keeps telling me he bought me an unlimited supply of Starters, but I was getting those long before we were friends.  My CC owner got those for me when I first started playing WGT! ;-D
