    b0geybuster:

I want to applaud Daddyskat contributions to the community! Once again, you are providing a very useful tool for the community to use.

    Great work!

Thanks, B0gey.  As a low-handicap golfer IRL, I hate "Net" tournaments.  Nothing like winning a tourney gross and losing due to a handicap technicality!  I'm sure the low-scoring legends and tour-legends hate this idea!

My recommendation ... run these as a dual tourney ... (1) Fed-Ex style for the low handicap players and (2) net score for the high-handicap players.  This way, there's two winners ... gross and net!

Edit:  By the way, the handicapping will be a part of the "tourney manager".  It will be part of the "Score History" worksheet and will show both "Gross" and "Net" scores.

Your solution to manual input sounds good to me Kat!

And make sure this program runs on Excel 1989 for me ok? ;)

I'll save the "XLSx" spreadsheet as a "97-2003" XLS ... it will be beta though ... no guarantees.  I don't have 2003 Excel anymore to test!

I think Cobalt is right. One of my members is master and he has a lower handicap than me, -a legend-  based just on the required scores he submitted..

The perfect scenario would workout if all tiers played in all the club credit t's they are graded to, but that's unlikely to happen.

Doin the spreadsheet seems like a lot of work for one person.  I'm putting my trust in my members to do the maths based on the GHIN system and provide me with their handicaps.  Fingers crossed.

Since it seems you're being monitored, Dub, I'm quoting you from the e-mail I received.

I sure wish there was a way to "SQL Query" all of the players' scoring history.  Then the handicapping would take about 3 minutes for a 250 member CC.  It will take some work, but the spreadsheet does contain hyperlinks to the member's profile.  If you click on the player's name, their profile page will load automatically.

While I admit it's not perfect, it beats the heck out of manual.  Maybe you can share the routine with your members?  Have them send you the detail when they send you their revised handicap?  Like I said, sure beats doing it manually!

Also, to insure you get the member's handicap, maybe you can put a post on your forum and let all the members know what they need to do to participate.  Players that don't send you their handicap prior to the beginning of the tourney can play, it's just they will be DQ'ed from the final standings, since you didn't receive their handicap in time.

(I'm sure your post will show up eventually ... then this reply won't look so out of place!)

As IRL ..... what gets me is WGT has the capabilities to do this, WHY NOT WGT?

The new club is up and running. I  hope one or two members will get involved in sharing the workload. Some members have given me their handicaps, but as usual, others will need reminding.

Yeah being monitored. It was supposed to be lifted yesterday.

There's no money in it, sadly.  IRL, you must join a club or USGA approved sponsor site to get a handicap index, and it isn't free.  Maybe if WGT would have a special club you had to pay credits to join, then they would provide you with an index that gets updated twice a month.  It sure would be easier for "net" style tourneys.

I seriously doubt this will happen.  That's why I'm trying to find the easiest possible solution a CC owner could use to handicap their members.  I'm adding this function to the "Tourney Manager".  While it will require a bit of work on the owner's or handicap committee's part, it will be easy to run and much better than doing manually.

I tend to write these solutions when presented with an idea.  The tourney manager that's free to all was an idea I got from a member of "Bridgestone CC".  The handicap system was first presented to me by a member of "Cosa Nostra", then later posted to the forum by Dub.  It will be an extension of the Tourney Manager ... another multiple-tournament spreadsheet that will include "gross" and "net" scores.  It won't replace the "Fed-Ex Cup" style points system, just be another spreadsheet within the manager.

Looks like they lifted it for this message ... your other message is still being monitored, however!

I run Gnumeric in my Linux install. It does have the ability to save as .xlsx files. I guess I'll just have to assume it will open them too.

If I can assist you in any way with your program I'd be happy to try. But as you can see from the below exchange, I definately have my limitations.

    DaddysKat:

-- Will your spreadsheet program differentiate between 9 or 18 hole scores and CTTH scores if someone is copying a players scoring history?

If you look at any player's scoring history, there is a field that will define the type of game that player played.  For example, looking at your scoring history, you have several CTTH games (no description in the "Holes" column), some "Front 9", some "Back 9", some "Full 18" and some "Blitz" games.  The program will scan through the clipboard and pick out the first 20 "Front 9", "Back 9" and "Full 18" games only.  It will have a column showing the score and another showing the full 18.  For 9 hole games, the score will be doubled.  Once the program has selected your last 20 games, it will scan through the list and pick out the top 10 18 hole scores, then compute the average.

Have you put this program out anywhere to share with other CC's or are you still working on it before you are willing to share it with anyone?
