Thank you sweetmiffy for an entertaining little competition. It also showed me (through Google image searches) how many lovely places I missed on my last trip to South Africa! Now I will have to go back for more!

    Correction.

Australia holds the title of most ore wagons, or cars. 682 vs 660 on the Sishen line in Africa.

That was total length of the train not the tracks or miles hauled with ore as I first posted.

The longest rail ride is the Transsibirskaya Magistral or Trans-Siberian Railway.

The location of the second clue was accurate, not the first part.

    Just like my answer.  :)

    accolades to the winner.

thanks miffy ,,,,, your other pics of the trip helped pinpoint it .... the track near the sea :)

so another one for you from when i was backpacking about 30 years ago .... :)

i've seen a few recent pics and it doesn't change that much

clue 1 ...... the general area where this place is, has 10 reason to know it

clue 2 ...... the place name translate to english as "gold"

oops, i was obviously on something that froze my brain .... :) . the place name isn't a palindrome ..... apologies, not sure what i was thinking at the time :)

    so i've changed clue 2

and i'll add another one :)

clue 3 - the sea around this place isn't very blue
