I was playing Bethpage for a tourney. When I got to approaching the 7th hole, with pin in the open, I had a 2 MPH wind blowing from right to left and 243yds to pin. I moved marker 3-5yds past the right side of the opening, looking to the hole, hit my 3wood with half backspin on a mx pro+ ball, and hit the ding on the shot.
I was thinking that this shot would be very good, since I hit the ding, and that it would be close to the hole for a birdie putt. I have practiced and hit this shot, and it has worked out well. This, however, was not the case. For starters, my ball seemed to go a bit left, right off the club. Then I was amazed to see that my ball was headed straight for the bunkers on the left side of the opening. It didn't make it there though....the 40-50% rough stopped it first...phew!
I have hit this shot before, in tourney rounds, with this club, and a 2-5mph cross wind, and it has gone left off club and headed straight for that same patch of rough every time.....with a ding almost every time...I have hit a touch late a couple times, and even then it still went to that spot.
I admit it may be me, but I do practice rounds and the shot goes just fine...so not thinking it is. I am not sure how everything goes, but there may be a glitch here on this course, or with my clubs, or with me...just wanted to let you all know so that you could look at it at some point...until then I will continue to try for the par save.
