Level 96 Versa

  So how is this subject putter, seems i'm being sent a very strong message that I may have overused this month old lvl 70 versa, when I miss the cabo flat par 3 putt on a ding the last 3 times I played it.

  I read them all, I'm a ding putter mostly, so it seems it would be good for that, I also read with interest the precision putting thread.

  My level 70 has treated me well, I'm mostly happy with it, what i'm looking for as others were in some of those threads is to stop that putt jumping off line off the putter face. Now thats hard to notice mostly, but is extremely noticeable on the cabo par 3, so it's not hard to figure where some of the lipouts at least are coming from and likely where some of the holed bombs are as well.

  I guess I'm looking for a more consistent level 70 versa.

  What Ive learned here though, is keep the lvl 70, buy the 96 when the credits are plentiful.

  Edit; So I'm playing merion as i write this and thinking about this as i just missed a 5 footer the hole before. Ok so heres the putt on the next hole, same distance same break, just a slight R2L break, this one is little more down hill though. This putt I decided don't move the aimer and miss the ding and aim 2 or so feet by. The last hole before no replay I move the aimer to just inside right edge, aim for 2 or so feet by and ding and the putt, it just creeps up and lips out an inch or so by the hole. On champ greens the first putt if incorrectly aimed would of been 2-6 feet by easily. I prefer the putting method of the 1rst putt, but hate the result i get to often.

  So if I'm reading this right, and I'm not to slow, although i like to ding the putts, I have the wrong putter presently and the 96 will help my preferred method of putting, whereby the 70 is good for missing the ding like the rossa is obviously.

  In one of the other threads YJ referred to the L96 Versa as "a Rossa on steroids."  I think his assessment is right on the money.

  I used to try to ding the Rossa on dead straight putts only...everything else I'd try to miss to varying degrees on the break side...l-to-r breaker, miss early, r-to-left breaker, miss late, and I've always moved the aimer along with missing the ding on the side of the break.

  This method works even better with the Versa.  Unlike the L92 Ghost, the Versa lends itself to the "move the aimer and miss on side of break" method.

  The Versa really shines on longer putts.  I'm holing more of those and misses are much closer than in the past.

  Whether it's worth the hefty price or not, I can't say, but since I bought it my putting stats are improving steadily.

  Having said that, some of the best putters playing this game are still using lower level putters; for example, Sebicu was still using the Rossa last time I checked.

  I have both as I said in one of those recent threads...I too loved the lvl 70 versa and wasn't sure if the lvl 96 was worth that kind of money, wasn't even sure after I bought it....after a few days as far as I am concerned it is well worth it...deadly accurate 15 feet in and forgiving if you miss the ding....in fact I am just getting ready to sell the lvl 70 and a driver.

   

  I'm a ding putter too, I just move the aim box on most putts but I have been using G0ld formula to get break on putts with a lot of break, now I use it on most of the putts if I have any doubt at all, and if you get the speed of the dots right with the 96 it is center cup everytime if your anywhere close to ding.

  another I see is when you have a putt and there is that 1 dot moving so slow it looks harmless and it throws your putt way offline, or a straight in 8 footer with the last 3 dots barely moving but makes your putt drift off the cup or lipout, this putter seems to eliminate those misses...

   

  you won't regret upgrading to the 96!

  Ok so assuming everybodys putting style is different and in the experience of the ding putters like me, what is the best putter to ding.

  To be clear, mostly i aim 2 feet by the hole and ding, I will move the aimer almost always.

  I'm finding the lvl 70 versa lacking in that area, it can be very inconsistent when dinged, if i miss the putt right or left it flys by the hole, if Im in the thoat it either stops short or does this casual little break at the hole and just misses far to often. Obviously not always the case, but often enough I'm here looking to bend it around a tree.

  I'm looking for a putter that i can ding, will go a consistent measurable distance and not nearly as often jump off the face in some unknown direction.

  Thx fat, anyone else care to confirm what he said.

  Is there such an animal here? Or must i return to my roots and go back to miss ding putting in which case the putter i have is awesome for that.

  I never had the L96 Versa for long so not not as well versed in it (like that haha..OK shut up I hear).

  Compared to the L70 I did not think it took miss dinging as well - can go well wide with the L70.

  As a ding putter I can't see how you can beat the L96.  RGs will it sometimes fly off the face oddly? Will a putt never come up short? RG land I would not be betting against either of those ever happening, but on the whole as a ding putter it's awesome.  

  Get in to miss dinging, and what I saw (in the short couple of days I had it) was a putter that could handle some miss dinging to hold a line for sure, but go into real miss dinging territory and you were seriously against the grain IMO.  The L70 is already pretty good, but you want cream of the dings (same forgiveness as the L70) the $40 buys you that.

  I have the L96 and I love it, it's brought my putting average down from 1.58 with the previous L77 Nike (over 121 RRs) to 1.464 (over 41 RRs).

  With the L77 I was a combination of ding and miss ding, i.e. aim off but then also miss ding a bit to ensure on the high side, this worked quite well (for me).

  However, with the L96 that wouldn't work the first few rounds were a 'mare, I switched to 'ding is king' and voila it was wonderful. What I have since found though is that it will tolerate some miss ding but only a tiny amount, I think your talking about 3pixel miss max any more and the ball will go where you aimed it (i.e. miss the hole), and tbh missing by that small an amount consistently is a pretty tall order, (for me at least).
