I keep checking the forums to see if I should hurry to level 100 but so far I haven't read anything about the new Nike driver.

I realise the number of players who can buy it is pretty small but I'd have thought somebody would be discussing it by now.

    Anyone?

Its probably because they already have the 97+ R1 driver . Since the new nike only offers a higher loft , why buy it  , if it gives you the same distance as the R1 ? I think that due to the level its placed at , WGT has shot themselves in the foot . Maybe if they lowered it a few levels , or put it at level 97+ , it may sell . It would at least give players a choice , between the R1 , and the covert driver . The price as well , may also be another reason , as to why no one has bought it . Just food for thought . :-)

One of the qualities of this driver that WGT mentioned in the introduction is that it will allow you to cut corners. That doesn't really help with the existing courses BUT it just so happens Pinehurst has no less than 13 "bent" holes. Do the math.  :-)

l have it as well as the level 93 R1.

Used in conjunction with a good distance ball its pretty good, higher trajectory and all. lf you use even the level 33 Callys its pointless IMO.

I had excess credits to spend otherwise l wouldn't have purchased and wasted the credits and stuck with what l had.

*edit* lve been using the Callaway Legend ball @ 45 with 4.5 distance and or either level 71 Nikes.

It isn't as long as the R1...

Easy to hit fairways but it dies when it lands, even backs up lol...

I used it and R1 on oak #10 over and over in all winds, downhill with a slope away from tee, and it is shorter than R1 with wind and shorter against wind...same at BPB #1...Even with the wind it hasn't outdrove R1 on level holes...Good driver easy to control, but not all that for $35, very little run after it hits...

Like YJ said, good for courses with doglegs to cut the corner like a couple of hole at congressional where you overshoot the fairway if you don't shorten the stroke with the R1, might work well on driveable holes at STA but haven't tried them yet even though I plan on it, but I'm not impressed, haven't put it in play for 4 days....AND IT IS BRIGHT RED which totally messes with my mind for some stupid reason...if you have R! it's a waste of money....

    using lvl 61 Nike ball

The new course is a good point.  Few that I have spoken to indicate it's no great shakes in any head wind (high loft).  Now maybe, not long having it, they are not yet used to exploiting it fully with various spin options??

The problem for WGT, as I see it, is that you can't seriously put anything game changing at over 2.25 MILLION XPS with the way it stands, and so it's 100% fluff? Maybe nice to have fluff and fair enough, but the day I need to rush through half a million XPs to do well at one course will never come.  If it's not real fluff for a any given course they have a really serious problem.

EDIT: Missed that fatdan actual has it.  Thanks for the insight.

What more do you need than the R1 driver and the R11 irons??

That new driver Jim is not that good at all. I have played with many that have it. The R1 out drives it 90% of the time. Also there is not that many over level 100 anyway. Think only like 193 TL's at level 100 or above. Not to mention i don't think they would want to brag about it at all.....lol.  From what i seen Jim if my R1 is not going to cut the dogleg.... there is no way the Nike clears it. Into any headwind the Nike gets smoked by the R1. And.... i'm out driving it with a Max ball.... when they are playing the high level Nike ball. I don't think that should be happening,, but it is consistently.  Really if i had bought it..... i would not be happy.

I just played with a top player yesterday in stroke play.... he was using the new Nike driver and irons.... he shot 31... i shot 27. I can't see any advantage what soever. Bottom line a driver is not going to lower your scores. Either you can putt or not.

Driver for a particular course?  No way lol. Everyone said that last year when the R1 came out with Merion. I had no problems qualifying with the R11s.

With the way the game play has been of late.... i would say any new high level gear will be nothing but fluff Jim. Can't make equipment much better than we already have. Never know though,, the Vem dial might only be on 3/4...lol. Might still have room to turn it up.

Pinehurst course will be all about the putting, some seriously sloped greens. Same as Merion,,, unless you are going to putt with that new Nike driver.... i can't see any use for it.

Cutting doglegs?......lol.... wait till you see the doglegs in Pinehurst's greens.... lol.

If they program this course correctly... it will be the toughest course to putt on by far. There should be several spots where you could easily putt the ball off the green...lol.

When you step on Pinehurst the last club you are thinking about is the driver. Like i said if they do this course correctly you will see. You think some hate Oly. and Merion....lmao. They will be running from this course.

Thanks for the feedback, now I know not to bother when I finally reach L100.

I didn't think it would be worth it, all those credits for 0.1 more forgiveness?  Bearing in mind that isn't even half a dot, it's a 10th of one.  And if it's shorter than the R1 as well......
