Not sure if this is a bug or a different problem

I don't use back spin a whole lot but I have tried it more and more lately

I use the callaway lvl43/Legend balls, And the high level cleveland wedges

If i hit a shot and it lands even in front of the cup I can make it come back about 4-5 feet.

But if I shoot past the cup on that same shot I can only get it to come back like 3-5 inches

    Why is this??

There is a theory that if you apply full backspin with a 64° Cleveland Wedge, with full or close to full power, that on landing the ball will spin on the spot because it is spinning too fast to grip the green surface. Once the spin speed has slowed down the ball will then grip and screw back but because it has lost most of its spin the screw back is only a short distance. If you try the same shot but with only about ¾ backspin then it should screw back much further.

We've been saying same thing for years.  If you land short, ball seems to spin back but land anything past the pin and ball will bounce forward.  Its just how the game is programmed i think.

Chuddly,  we are playing the same wedges. I have found amazing accuracy on approach shots with zero (slightly up) spin. I, routinely, drop the ball at 1 to 2 yards of the pin and it doesn't roll very much at all (unless you are shooting onto a 15+ foot elevated green). I do not use backspin on "Full" shots because the results seem inconsistent for me - which is to say that I can never tell how much the ball will back up.  However, I do use backspin on Flop, Chip, Pitch, and Punch shots - with pretty consistent results.  The ball tends NOT to back up (much) with these shots.

    Thanks guys

And, the back spin is just something I started playing with a few days ago.  I have no problem with the accuracy of the wedges, they are remarkable.

Just found it odd that it is so easy to back spin when landing in front of the pin and not when shooting past the pin

I will try the 3/4 back spin, and see if that works.

I have to change topics here. Is anyone else bothered by how quickly purchased balls are taken out of play?

    Thanks for the videos ScottHope

Hopefully one day I will be able to control spin if I need it.

Until then, I will experiment here and there lol

    ScottHope:

These 2 shots explain a lot, thanks.  Distance sometimes dictates using more power and shooting long and backing to the hole, instead of trying for correct power to land at hole and holding ball.  Back off of spin and expect less backup, but instead get more.  Yep answers that WTF.

    Thanks, Scott.

Not a bug at all, just flat playing the shot wrong.

Cheers Gary. I guess it doesn't really matter how the clubs behave, just as long as they are consistent and we know what to expect from them.
