It seems as though i've been a Master for A long time. Is there some sort of criteria I need to meet to advance to the next level?

We use an algorithm to determine when a player is eligible to move to a new tier, which takes into account a number of factors including number of ranked games played.  These numbers scale by tier, so as it's necessary to shoot a lower average to advance and to play more games to reach higher tiers.  For example, when you reach Tour Master, you will need to play a larger number of ranked rounds than you had as a Master, maintaining a low average, to tier up to Legend.

Additionally, WGT is  using more than just ranked stroke play scores to determine each player’s average score and appropriate tier ranking. For obvious reasons, we are not sharing exact details of these changes, but they include factoring in scores from players who perform well in tournaments and challenge games for credits. We still encourage the community’s feedback on Sandbagging, but believe this is an important step to reducing the practice and keeping the game fair.

Most of our top players have posted close estimates for players to try to gauge their progress in advancing tiers. Here is a good thread to read:

Your last 17 games have been CTTH. You can only lower your average by playing ranked stroke play.

For you: Some (20? 25?) more ranked strokeplay rounds of 30-35 scoring, not on Par3 / Par 5 courses. This guess is based on the 11 visible scores from June 2013 with a remarkable 66.9 average.

At level 90, you might help yourself with some shopping:

    - drop the hybrid and replace the 3WD with a better one (e.g. high level G20).
(with credits at hand, you might choose the G20 full set)

    - set up three wedges. Instead of your 60 - 90 set-up, choose either 50 - 75 - (100*) (ATV) or 60 - 80 - 100 (Cleveland).

*) A top level Cleveland of 100 yds fits well here.

    Go for it! Have fun!

I advanced to Master in Mid-Jan. I just advanced to Tour Master this past Friday. Quite surprising to me.

Looking at my score history, I played about 40 ranked rounds as a Master but I know my average in those rounds was not good enough. However, I had very good success in MP rounds vs Tour Masters and Legends during the last month. That kept my average in the low 60's and apparently allowed me to advance so quickly.

Actually this is the sandbagging fix WGT came up with. You beat Legends as a TM and you're going to move up quicker.

I'm trying to understand this. Are you saying the fix has actually led to me moving up faster? That seems counter to fixing sandbagging.

Sandbaggers tank the average to remain in the lower tiers, ostensibly gaining an advantage. And yes, beating those Legends facilitates getting to the next level.

Sandbagging is addressed when a player is moved up a tier, because the tees at the new higher tier are usually further from the hole, the greens get faster, and the player is accorded less tolerance on mis-hits and aiming errors.
