    ScottHope:

    WANTED

An excel formula to generate a random time of day between 9am and 9pm. Grateful for any input, thanks.

Does it have to be a formula?  Will a macro work for you?

Edit:  I don't know if this is what you're after Scott, but give this formula a try:

    =TIME(9+INT(RAND()*12),INT(RAND()*60),INT(RAND()*60))

and if it works, don't thank me ... that was something my uncle wrote down when I asked him what you were after.  I'm downright terrible with formulas!

Thanks for the response Kat & Uncle, that formula works very nicely, I don't think I ever would have come up with anything like that.

But as is often the way with such things, having tussled with the problem for a while and then slept on it, I came up with a solution.

    =RANDBETWEEN(37500,87500)/100000

Your Uncles formula is better though because it formats the cell to show a time, whereas mine doesn't.

    Thank you both.  : )

something i do use more is here http://solentgolfsociety.co.uk/resultssheet.html

a complete society scoring and handicap system in excel, always looking for ways to improve it.

    Hi Oilyrag,

I really enjoy looking at what others are doing "outside" WGT. I do quite a bit on Google drive. When I go to this link, I get an access error. Is there anyway to view only or copy the file to my Google drive. I promise not to mess with it. If you need an IP address or email address, could you send me a friends request so we can exchange the information.

    Thanks,

     - Mark

Yours works just as well.  The Time feature still creates a decimal value if the cell format is in General format.

I wrote something similar in college for my VB professor.  He wanted a way to randomly place names on a 10 by 10 square for the superbowl.  I think he's still using it to sucker in the professors.  lol.

And ... you're welcome, Scott.  Any time.

    Hey Mark,

I wrote a tourney manager that calculates member handicaps.  You can check it out if you want.  The macros are not protected, so you can see how I went about it.  I also have some Google Slide presentations to show you how it works.

Just send me a PM and I'll shoot you over the link.
