WGTicon: It won't be called that but I am hoping to prepare something special with extra hard settings/green speeds...
The problem with UELs is the lack of realism close in especially. OK all day long people can argue flat lies is not realistic either, but neither UELs. For people that like the format fantastic more power to ya - enjoy. Until the problems with that close in stuff is sorted though this will remain second fiddle to the current real deal which is the flat lies.
WGTicon: My goal is to have overpar win :)
About par should be it. Your challenge is to do so in a way that retains some semblance of realism, and that's where UELs falls over. From what I can see playing it only a few times the fways do not offer that much threat usually, and so you aim for the green. Close those wedges / rough play are just too extreme to be fun for me. If they were extreme in a way that captured something approaching RL fine I would be hooked, but they are not and that's the issue. All that said crazy green speeds are fun (if that's the intent), but too "crazy" , my fascination in crazy golf would be limited.
They toned down the first release to what we currently have as most just thought good luck with that whacko stuff, but problem is closer in it's still so very unrealistic and that's after the fway shot's being toned down not being that realistic. I have heard the argument it's more realistic than flat lies. but I don't but that at all and don't see it.
Like I say those that feel it meets their expectation's and like the format great, and in the end the market will decide. At present, in a time challenged world, I am in the camp that says show me again when the issues are sorted out, and that's the majority saying the least.
garygun: Perhaps WGT should run a parallel tiered US Open Tournament (with lower prizes) so players other than Tour Legends can enjoy the Open challenge against those with similar skills. Just a thought.
In an ideal world would be a good idea. Here the race would be for which sandbagger comes first sadly.
