    MAX Meter 3 Wood (L92+)

Wrote a review on this 3 wood but since it wasn't positive it never got published. Purchased this for the slower meter and good forgiveness but as happy as I am for getting the SLDR driver I'm equally disappointed in this 3-wood.

    1. Forgiveness - listed at 4 but if I miss the ding - which I usually do, I find it isn't near as forgiving as advertised.

    2. Meter - has a 4.5 meter (all my other clubs are 3.5). Have found that I'm usually early trying to adjust to the slower meter but if I wait too long it seems to accelerate through the ding and I'm really late.

Hate to think I wasted credits on this thing but am seriously not happy with this club...anyone else with buyers remorse on this club???

I had it until I got the R11s and I thought it was fine. It even went 5 yards more than advertised.

Big Bertha 3-wood club ain't so bad once you get used to it.  Very unforgiving though but for some reason as time goes on it seems to be more forgiving.

Keep trying it for a few weeks and see if you get the same results I do on new things.   The Bertha came out like a bang and was awesome for a few rounds.  Then couldn't control it anywhere and was in every sand box or tree line in a 30 yard radius of my aim. Now seems to be fine, control is better.  This is not some anomaly.  Every time I get a new club or set of clubs I always do great for an hour or day.  Then struggle for a week or two.  Every time.

Use the L89 BB now.  Overall the extra length I think benefits me, but miss that ding by a hair and the possibilities are worse than anything that L92 Max did to me.

You say you miss the ding, but by how much??  Personally I liked it's slow  meter, and often lament the loss of it's attributes apart from that slight lack of distance compared to the BB.

My time with it I thought it was a great little 3 wood.  Very dependable "usually" line wise, and safe as houses length wise.  Ok not quite the spin of the BB / or higher level R11 from fway, but good enough.

    Used a bunch of 3W's...

Luv the Max L92, does cool things outta nasty rough spots that others don't do so well at.

I'm looking at your activity, and did you really buy it or rent it? (I see rent). Forgive me I don't doubt you, I might have skimmed past it.

I agree w/ Commonguy, about how the club may start out great, then it takes at least 2 weeks to 'break in' and sometimes 5+ weeks by my guess to really be rewarding.

I'm curious about how long you've had it because, like you, I have my eyes on this kind of club. I'm big on using starter balls for a challenge and this one fit the bill. Later, when I get more creds I would introduce a better ball (better ,meter and spin) then see how the club reacts.

Any input on how it reacts to what balls, and how long you have been using it would be welcome.

Thanks to everyone in advance on this topic.

The club was actually gifted to me on 04/18 (I use the term buyers remorse loosely) so I've been using it for over a month now. Since it's a 3 wood it doesn't come out of my bag very often to get a real feel for it so perhaps I'm overreacting a tad. What I might do is go play a 9 hole practice round and just use this club off the tee and for long approaches and get about 20 good whacks out of it and see how I feel after that.

    Thanks all for the reply's.

    Hi,

I went from a G20 level 58 to this and saw an immediate improvement. Now, with such a big jump one would expect that. I cant say how it would compare to other highest level 3woods, but I have found it very user friendly.

However, I do share your concern that the forgiveness is not what it's cracked up to be. I also notice that though the meter is nice and slow, which is what I wanted b4 I bought it and was a big part of my decision process, it does as you say seem to accelerate thru the ding zone quite fast, meaning more ding misses than one would expect with a slow meter club.

Having said that, I birdie most par 5's now. On a par 5 9hole round, 36-37 is what I expect unless it's super windy. And I usually play with a cheap style of ball without the mega spin of nike, 2 dots at the most.

Like you say, keep practicing, it can only help.

    AFD

Nope, you're not alone.  I have it.  I hope whatever employee listed its forgiveness is fired.  From a cannon.

It is the most unforgiving club I've used in a long, long time - and by no small margin.  If you miss ding (fortuntely the meter isn't too bad), you're in for a nasty approach.
