On a course like BPB where you need the carry, the new balls are worth it.
For example, it is difficult to carry the bunker off the tee on the drive @ #12 into a headwind. It gets a lot easier with the SD2. You simply have more room for error.
In a tailwind, you can really launch it. Had a 14mph wind @11o'clock on #15 last night - drove it about 300 yards and hit a 8 iron to 7 feet from the lower pin. Rattled in the putt for my only birdie on the back 9.
on average you may only get 3-4 yards. But, if you hold your mouth just right and know how to finesse the spin off the tee for max carry and distance - you'll get more from these balls.
They totally screw up most of my approach shots however. Wedges and short irons are in the air considerably longer. I should probably play a few rounds in low wind to get the baseline down.
