    TDSLIMIT:

Why cant WGT have 3 different pin positions on every hole.

Probably because they don't have the 10's of thousands of photographs needed of each golf course to add the extra hole placements to each course.

It's also likely few of the golf courses are willing to shut down again so WGT can make the needed photographs.

    Thats exactly it.

On a real golf course we would move the pins and tees everyday.  You would have front middle and back and you would rotate them each day, as well as moving tees forward and back at each tee box for the given level/color

Unfortunately here it can't be done very successfully because of the photos. Each pin has to have thousands of photos around it to give you the different angles. If you don't have those and just try and piece it together with what you have you get a result like the second pins at Kiawah. People are always complaining about the funky angles on holes like 15. Some of that is due to terrain and not being able to get in a good spot for a photo, but some of it has to do with the fact that when they photographed the course they didn't have 2 pins in mind, AFIAK.

Maybe a good idea for the future, is in some areas, instead of taking still photos, take video.  You could have the photographer stand at the back of each tee box and start video and slowly walk down the center of each tee box. When you are done you could then cut out 10 - 15 different photos for that given tee box and each of those photos could be the photo we see from behind us on the tee box, giving us 10 or 15 different tee placements on a given tee box. Not sure if something similar could be done on the greens. Having moving video from many different angles that could then be used to create stills. Haven't a clue if that is even viable or cost effective

How should information on green depth and "zoning" help when
    a) it's wrong,
    b) it doesn't indicate the current pin position,
    c) the exact yardage is (usually) available for the approach shot?

This information panel has only one purpose: to light a cigarette, well sit down and get ready to shoot.

    This!

Furtheron, they probably wanted it to look like a good strokesaver page where you'd expect such detail (but true).

That looks like a pre hole pic from a CTTH hole info.  I may be wrong, but I seem to remember in the directions on playing CTTH its broken down similar.
