    YankeeJim:
For instance, you usually have more than one way to get to a certain distance. What makes you pick one over the other?

    It's just a feeling I get...

Most of the time i choose whats worked in the past but thats not feel to me its repetition

And for those times that "most" doesn't cover, what do you do? I suspect you think about it and ultimately do what feels right.

I think feel comes from repetition both here and IRL. You don't have every shot you ever took recorded but you've taken so many you develop a feel for what you can do in a given situation. After a while you can trust the instincts and play by feel. I can't tell you how many times I get hurt by second-guessing a shot. Trust that first instinct.   :-)

    I just feel vem'd.

Now I feel better, but still being whooped by vem.  ;-)

    Edit**

One really should have "safe search" on if they are going to search for a picture of a 6 pack of Molson XXX with wife/family near computer.  LOL

    Thx for the reply's guy's & gals

I'm glad to know it's not just me then having this issue .. lol..

Some gr8 point's made esp the one's about deviations & vem , these two i  knew about but the ball only ever fell about 5 yrds short, that I could live with :)  it's now more like 10 to 15 yrds short lol

Looks like we all have to wait for wgt to pull their finger out and fix it.... yeah right like that's ever going to happen :)

BTW that six pack has made me thirsty.. lol.. Thx

    Happy Hitting All .... Dave

Each club make/model has a value listed in the Pro Shop called Precision.

That value of Precision defines the size of a circle. The more Precision a club has the smaller the circle is.

If you ding a shot the ball will land somewhere in that circle. The ball can land at the top of or the bottom of the circle.

In other words, with no wind, no elevation change, same spin setting and a static aiming point, if you ding 10 shots the ball can land in 10 different places inside that circle that is centered on the aiming point.

    WGTniv:
    The game is pretty simple.

    Precision controls your accuracy.

Imagine it's like a circle that surrounds the flagstick when you aim at it.  The size of that circle is related to the precision rating.  The higher the rating the smaller the circle.

Your ball can land anywhere in the circle on a dinged shot (left or right, long or short).

It will ALWAYS land in the circle on a ding shot, though sometimes it may land in the center of the circle and sometimes it may land on the very outer edge or anywhere in between those two points.  When it lands on the outer edge this is what you guys have come to know as "the beast".

Was the shot pre-programmed? Does it know you're standing on the 17th hole at Kiawah?

    No, it's just unfortunate timing.

The result you see is the logical spread dictated by the precision rating of the club over 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 shots taken on the site.  No matter how big or small the sample it's amazingly consistent because it is after all only a simple mathematical formula.

The shot data is spread out amongst all users, so there will be times when you run into a lot of "edge cases" (aka deviations, aka outside edge of the precision circle) and times where you seemingly can't miss the center (even when you mishit).

This is the ebb and flow of the game and it's always been there.  In the short term you will have "bad" days and "good" days.  In the long term (providing they are using the same clubs) any one player will see the same amount of "edge cases" or "deviations" that the rest of the players do.

While this is true, I've had some ridiculous shots the past few days. I am used to the courses, understand how to account for wind and elevation and hole variations.

An example: hit my 5 iron (190 yard club) to about the 180-185 mark on a par 3 where the pin was stated at 188 yards with a cross-wind, well I hit this shot over 220 yards. I was quite surprised to see the ball sail over the green!

Today, again on a par 3 the pin was at 180 yards (elevated 4 yards), but with a strong tailwind, so I pulled out my 6 iron (175 yard club) and hit it less than full and was surprised when it sailed off over the green for a distance of 209 yards!

I've never hit my 175 6 iron 209 yards, even with a green way below me and a gale at my back. Something is going on with wgt at the moment.
