Maybe the pros or WGT can answer a question I've wondered about and asked, and I got some answers, but I've heard both sides:
Does a ball w/ an added distance rating add distance to other shots than the drive?
Some say "YES a non-drive shot w/ a ball w/ a added distance dot will go a certain percentage farther."
Some say "NO the added distance only applies to drives."
?
From my experience, the added distance applied to a non-drive shot is none or not too much. Which is really how I like it. But I am still uncertain on that point.
BUT MOVING ON....
When I add backspin, esp. FULL BACK SPIN , I realize I am changing the trajectory of the ball - the power is now making it go UP more and less strait ahead. So, a ball can lose yardage depending on the situation (and the spin rating of the ball/club & club type, e.g. wedge, 4 iron), plus it generally rolls out less, natch.
If I have a BIGGER tailwind then the ball w/ FULL BS will, again, be in the air MORE so the tailwind will carry the ball and it can go farther.
But if the tail wind is small, none, or opposite, etc. a ball w/ full BS will go UP more and roll out less so, in that case it may, generally fall shorter.
Any input or observations are surely welcome.
