I use the L-96 Bertha and can't imagine anything better...I love everything about it. However, I just now reached level 98 and the only new item to buy is the L-98 R1 driver. These two clubs differ in performance nomenclature only in trajectory; Bertha - High, R1 - Med-High. As a chick, I of course have a case of the "I wants". But what will I get ?

I tried the L96 BB, and IMO it's second to the R1 overall.  Any time you see anything other than a head wind you will be v pleased you have the R1 rather than the BB, and won't wish you had the BB back very often in any wind.  Around say Oly the R1 will go over and under anything you want it to, and judicious use of BS (especially with your balls) will pull up when needed etc..........

Nothing will be perfect for everything but overall the R1 any day for me.

But what will I get ?

    A handbag....a pair of shoes?

But that said the R1 is nice (I have the LE Black) but whether is is worth the dollars as from all accounts the L96 Bertha is great too.

Nice to have a woman who has wants rather than "must haves" lol.

I still have both the Big Bertha and the Black R1 ...... most of the time I use the BB , but could switch anytime with minimal change, infact sometimes I switch and forget what I got in there.

Personally, I would save the dollars.

Its horses for courses. Both are great drivers. Both have their place. On the faster tracks the R1 is a better club. On the tight courses with less roll the BB is a little better. The BB seems to be more accurate than the R1 but I dont have any trouble putting the R1 in the fair way either. There are only a few holes that either driver will make a difference on IMO.

I've been on the fence about going to the L96 Bertha for a while , (mainly due to being a Callaway fan IRL)  but  Shoe said that there will be new clubs coming our way when I suggested the new V series Bertha driver that Callaway recently announced.

I will wait and see what comes our way before deciding.  But I too have the " I want something new" syndrome pretty badly as of late. LOL

That being said,  the R1 is a reallllly good driver, the lower trajectory certainly has is benefits  and backspin with a helping wind will get some great carry and roll.

I am dazzled ! 8 quotable posts of value, tinctured with humor and much great goodwill. I truly thank and salute each one of you. I had a thought that was fueled by hearing a remark about the normal nature of Tour Legend game set-ups being most always hosted with moderate/heavy wind, and then considered that perhaps that was the reason for the med-high value on the R1; most L-98'ers are TLs, as to mean the R1 is the better wind club. This notion gets batted away by looking at the L-100 Nike Covert Driver which is back to High and bumped to 4.6 forgiveness...whatever a 0.1 increase means...and so there are now two "I wants". I know that these are "I wants", not "I needs" because I will never become a TL....unless some putting 'miracle' transpires.....Y'ALL are Special ! ~SP~
