    SweetiePie:

I use the L-96 Bertha and can't imagine anything better...I love everything about it. However, I just now reached level 98 and the only new item to buy is the L-98 R1 driver. These two clubs differ in performance nomenclature only in trajectory; Bertha - High, R1 - Med-High. As a chick, I of course have a case of the "I wants". But what will I get ?

I dont have the BB but i do have the nike and r1 and the r1 usually sits at home i like the nike better lol

R1 Driver SP is the club to get.

See some of my own preliminary tests using the R1 (wht) and the BB at this post. Actually, there are 2 posts - the first during a tail wind, then the next with a sort of front wind.

It was a few quick drives and the tests were pretty crude, but it may give you an idea of their performance.

IMHO Results vary from player to player.

I'm generalizing that the difference in the clubs' results are tied to the different trajectory ratings.

The adjustment on the spin/trajectory, depending on the strength and direction of the wind, (along with all other factors) may play a key role in how rewarding the drivers perform.

I rented the R1-88 today. I played the St. Andy unlim just now in the absurd heavy wind that wgt seems addicted to of late ( what are they smokin' in Frisco ?). Ave = 312.96 Long = 354.6, 7 of 8 fairways. I will continue with it and report what I find....tootles ~ SP ~

I trust you meant 98. Try using full top spin at SA and picking good landing spots, like the backsides of slopes. The R1 accuracy is a plus there.  :-)

Ha -- Yes Mr. Jim..L-98...Anyway, another sample, same game = ave 313.6  Long 370.9. Again, same test with Bertha 96  ave = 310.36, long 384.61...based on this, I find both drivers top performers in all areas. I prefer the high flight of the Bertha, and the only transition to be made would be the transfer of money to buy the R1 98...which is not ever going to happen with me... much too close to call. My test is over...I can't stomach another hole in this bloody heavy wind...my hair is a mess

SP, I don't think  IMHO you'd require the R1 at all

    Yup, like I said.

    ps

Again, I will continue to post any further test results w/ wind and spin.
