    dedBuNNy:

I will say one thing, and it's pretty logical as well. The 'older' TL's, players who are L110+ who've been around for 4 years or more don't really have a sense of what it's like to come in and advance now. This game isn't the same as it was back then, and there certainly wasn't the adjusting and interfered with player environments that are run now. That is very evident if you talk with players of that level and again, it makes sense. WGT have evolved and changed the way the game plays. It's not a complaint or whining about anything, it's just a simple fact - those players attained Tour Legend status under much different playing conditions and if,

I joined in Mar. 2008, I was much busier then and the game was much harder to play than it is now...I messed around here occasionally for years occasionally and was still a hack or amateur....in June of 2013 I was going through my bookmarks thinning them out and started to delete this link when my son-in-law who was over for a birthday party told me how good the game was now...(I hold him accountable for addiction to this day)...

With plenty of time on my hands now I went through the ranks in 6 1/2 months under the current conditions, and i know of at least 1 other member who did the same...I do remember seeing a lot more bugs with the lower level clubs, but as the equipment improved so did the game play...I also can tell you for a fact this game(meters/accuracy/clubs) is much easier to play now than years ago, and steadier(ie:meter/disconnects)...easier to advance today than 4 years ago and fewer bugs.

I would love to see these forums if they had to wait 5 minute or longer to get to the next hole when the site is busy, or meters that would stop for 10 seconds then stop again like in 2008-2009 LOL....trust me, having done both, even with VEM the oldtimers had it much tougher than the newer players do...

I didn't join that early, but in June 2009.  This game stood out to me over any other golf games because it wasn't about making birdie every hole.  I ended up just playing off and on over the years though as I had a bigger passion in sim racing so this just passed some time away while having a few drinks with friends.

Now that I'm taking it more seriously I find I'm still playing the game even though it isn't what made it stick out to me in the first place.  I enjoy the more difficult courses like Merion where it isn't about shooting 9 under in 9 holes.  Most people hate those difficult courses but I enjoy more of a challenge.

I Belive, I Believe, How else can you go a couple of rounds making every putt in sight, then all of a sudden you keep coming up .2 feet short or lipping out, or those breaks you thought you knew after 5,000 rounds are no longer going in...LOL. Happy Hitting

General consensus says,,,,,,VEM IS alive and well. After reading through this entire thread, (which has some very strong points and suggestions) VEM does exist. VEM will always exist. It has to in order to keep the game interesting and challenging,

    Hi Edge,

I think it's safe to say that neither one of us use the "VEM" factor as a crutch..... excuse for mistakes...missed dings..or errant shots

It is more of a frustration.

I expect to be punished if i miss the mark of the ding.....albeit sometimes a bit more severe than I deem necessary,I accept it nevertheless.

It is when a ding is struck................. I am smiling

But then not smiling so much!

    LOL

..getting a skewed result with striking the ding and the correct applications can be so frustrating.

    So disheartening.

    I do love this game.

I have worked hard ,as most of you have.

I've gone to practice....hitting every club on the fairway back& forth.

Knowing how far each club goes on the fly

    I love math

and if this game strictly adhered to mathematical reason all the time...

    Well then VEM wouldn't exist.

I am not implying that this "VEM" animal is prevalent on most shots

    But on an occasion

    i will ding a shot

    have

    1) my shot defy physics

    2) Defy common math.

It is an entertaining ,very challenging game.

I think where some frustrations lie........

    i'll have a great game going\

    playing my best

And basically get shafted with a "fixed" VEM result.

Saying there is an occasional unfair result

Where the correct shot gets unrewarded

    Is just plain reality.

    On the bright side.....

when we do get "boinked" We get good putting practice.

I wish all of you the best in this game.

As with any endeavor in life

    Practice

    Practice

    Practice

    Smiles

    Hugs

    Allie

I could, obviously, be wrong here, but everything you said, basically contradicts your conclusion. If you only 'messed around' for a few years there is no reason at all you should have improved much over that time period, regardless of equipment. In fact, not being able to get better equipment, if available then, would serve only to ensure you wouldn't see much improvement.

But, you say as soon as you had the time to dedicate to the game you suddenly advanced quicker. I started in January of this year and hit L at Lv 89, in about 6 months, but I played my butt off, got lucky with some great help and advice, and also played the home video game this is most closely related to, for hours on end, years ago.

I can't speak to whether advancing is tougher or easier now, though I would imagine a bit easier simply based on $$$. But, I doubt it was that much harder back then as it is today. I would think some things got easier while others became much harder to do. Obviously, speculation but it is an educated speculation with, hopefully, a bit of logic thrown in.

That said, I'm sure the game play itself, meters etc., made it more difficult but that's just technology and no fault or doing on wgt's end. Again, IMHO.
