Is it possible to say whether the 'lack of interest' was from sponsors, Golf Channel, Golf Channel viewers, ticket sales, or perhaps views expressed by some of the potential finalists? Or for 'interest', should we read 'forethought'?

No one signed up to attend and it didn't look like anyone was going to based on the responses we got. So we decided to focus our efforts on different ideas.

I would consider coming to one of these things, particularly in Florida during winter. But the planning was not there, the details were not clear. This is too often the case with WGT. I suspect some marketing person says, "Hey, let's do this" and then makes a "plan" and a "schedule" without thinking through the details, much less actually arranging a venue. It seems to be WGT's corporate culture to make a half-assed plan, then pick up the pieces later. It's just so unnecessary. But it probably does not translate into heaps of lost revenue, so I'm not looking for things to change.

None of this is directed at you shoe. You are a stellar chap in my book.

Seems like a great opportunity to showcase WGT to a global golf audience is going to waste. Does this mean the viability of the Live Event was dependent on ticket sales?

There were plenty of forumites from within 6 hours drive of Orlando who said they wanted to attend. Yet few were prepared to commit at this early stage without knowing who the players would be. Address this issue and we could still have our Live final. Invite the 4 best players you can think of now, keep going until you have 4 top players who will definitely commit to attend, pledge to at worst meet their travel and accommodation costs, make the ticket prices slightly less extortionate, THEN see how much interest there is.

I don't care much about this. I want to know the exact location and if the food is any damn good before I spend my money.

There were probably many people who would have signed up (myself for one) if there had been more details about what I/we were actually paying for. Mainly, who would be the TL's playing, the venue, etc.

I think this will be a good idea for next year. Maybe use this as a learning tool, and work next years VT (if there is one) schedule so that there is time to announce specifics, and players who will be there.

I like the idea that you are having a meet/greet with players. I hope WGT will do as you've mentioned and get the twitch going, and promote the meet/greet among players.

I'm glad that the top 4 will be playing live, though.

While Golf Channel won't be co-hosting the WGT LIVE event in Dec, they're still covering the Virtual Tour online and interviewing the Tour Legend winners from the Virtual Tour majors in Sep and Nov, as well as the Virtual Tour Championship in Dec, so great exposure.

LOL,,,, This is just to funny. Im sorry but if anyone really "believed" that this was going to be a televised event then you may want reeeally take an honest look at this game. It is an "ON-LINE COMPUTER GAME".

Come on man. Does any one honestly think that a top rated Golf Channel "televise" a group of guys/woman sitting in a room  in front of computer monitors playing a computer on line golf game. Come on man,,lol. too funny.

Icon ran just in time, huh? Left you to be the bearer of bad news and catch the flak. You should be thinking of how to get even while he's gone ;-)

Just take a look at the number of people watching some Twitch feeds.  Amazing as it seems people watch others play video games. Some of these feeds get the same number of viewers as some smaller cable channels.

I totally get people the timing was rough.  Not knowing who would play, the cost, and the time of year all made this difficult. Hopefully with this under our belts something better comes of it.

Oh by the way Florida for me would be in January.  Got to get in my warm days of golf in the middle of winter.

    Ed,

Portland or Florida will be my next stop.  So I will keep you in mind.  We are more then happy to help with players finding others in your area.  We can send out targeted emails to players who are in the area.  I think after I do the one in NY/NJ I personally will have a better idea of how this will work. I think we would definitely need a point person in the area who wants to kind of run things once everyone is there.

I don't know if you have seen this thread yet, but it is a decent start.

I've a suggestion you might want to mull over....open up, expand the current forum to have "Regional Boards".

A few of my Car/Hot Rod sites have this...have met many folks face to face this way..

    I/e take Cal for example

    Northern Cal Board

    Southern Cal Board

(in fact on forum I go to has a Central Cal Board)

Verification could be part of the process..future Regional Tourney's, ...think NCAA, etc., well, you can take it over from there;)
