  TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra  - Is there a reason this course is not on here yet?

  After your request I belive DB was going to fly to FLA on Friday after work, photograph the course and email the pics back for the programmers and it would be ready Monday morning.

  But I could be wrong.....

  Booking a tee time should be sufficient legitimation for taking and using the pics, shouldn't it?

  Without question Sawgrass is a worthy addition much wanted. In the past 5 years or so, threads have shown up here pleading for that wonderful place. You ask if there is a reason it is not here. The answer is "yes". But that reason has yet to be explained ;-{

  Without question Sawgrass is a worthy addition much wanted. In the past 5 years or so, threads have shown up here pleading for that wonderful place. You ask if there is a reason it is not here. The answer is "yes". But that reason has yet to be explained ;-{ 

  It has been explained several times. So one more time. Sawgrass and all TPC courses are either owned or licensed by the PGA tour . The PGA TOUR granted exclusive rights to Sawgrass and all other TPC courses to EA Sports several years ago. Unless EA Sports gives up those exclusive rights we will never see any of those courses on here.

  And by the way the PGA Tour and the PGA that runs the PGA tournament and is now partnered with WGT are two separate entities. So don't count on that partnership to get us any of the TPC courses.

  Perhaps it has. I either missed it or forgot it. I lean toward "forgot".  As with any "technicality", I would forget, as they can always be overcome.

  Then after the technicality's are taken care of you got to convince WGT to spend the BIG bucks to film it and get it online. Never ever going to happen. One course a year.....maybe.

  Or maybe some silly par 3 course.

  WGT has the capability to add 2 complete courses per year.

  In a 2012 Forbes article about WGT it is implied that WGT makes back what it costs to photograph all 18 holes of a course in a relatively short time once the course is available online for play.

  The process of turning 18 holes into an immersive digital experience begins by shooting up to 300,000 photos with high-definition and laser cameras, on land and from a helicopter and plane, each picture attached to an exact location using GPS. Imaging can take two to three weeks and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars per course. The photos are stitched together to make textures and objects in a computer-generated 3-D environment.

  WGT’s developers then simulate the physical properties of the course’s terrain, hazards and environmental peculiarities in a six-month post-production process. The result is a course that plays to an accuracy of 1 inch off the real thing. Some pros have warmed up prior to an event by playing that course on WGT.

  Once a course is done and WGT has recouped its costs from the first several thousand players, it makes a healthy marginal profit from each additional player who tees off.
