I noticed the extra notebook as well, but it was only after turning off the speed boost that I received from the clash thingamajigger.
With the speed boost on, one of the notebook icons are replaced with the lightning bolt. Although, I wasn't getting the second notebook the last few rounds until I just turned on the speed boost and then turned it off, not until I turned off the boost did the second notebook icon show up.
