Hi all.... i just thought i would get this out there and see what others think. (and no i havent just had a bad round or throwing my toys, i was actually reading this post http://www.wgt.com/forums/t/268366.aspx and something came to mind).

Is WGT, actually breaking the law?. The reason i ask is this, when you run a company that profits from gambling, (RG, Skins, Brackets) and you manipulate the game to favor one person over the other, doesnt that break gaming laws of almost all countries?

Let me put it this way, say myself and you(whoever is reading this) enter a tournament, it is on the Par 5 course, with heavy winds. We both put 500 credits in and off we go. Now every hole you play you have a tail wind, You am making eagles left right and center, Even your missed ding shots and putts are going where you want to. Wow you are haing an amazing round. congratulations.

Now i tee off.... EVERY wind is in my face. i am not reaching any green in two. My putts start off on the wrong line cause i missed the ding by 1mm. My drives are staying on the wrong line cause i missed the ding by 1mm

We finish the tournament. You win the prize, WGT take some money. But hasnt WGT made an illegal gambling site by not making the odds even for both competing parties (i am sure there is a legal term for this) I am out of pocket REAL money cause wgt decided before i teed off that someone else should have a better round then me and win my money.

I know this isnt a perfect example but just something that popped up and would be interested in what other people think especially with regards to VEM and Wind assistance?

Interesting post. I suppose there is a grey area here - when we enter "paid for" tournaments are we gambling, or paying an entry fee to participate in a prize contest?

Personally, I see gambling as betting on an outcome. But if this site is subject to gambling laws here (as it appears to be in the US), then the UK laws say that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way....so maybe we should have an indicator of how much VEM we're getting per round.

yeah thats were it gets a little blurred as to what constitutes gambling. Another way would be to see it like a lottery where as you enter with the hopes of winning but actually have no control over the outcome.

But then if you go down that path does that then open WGT up to false advertising claims saying that the purchase of virtual equipment wiill improve your game due to having these attributes associated with that purchase but then in reality it wouldnt matter what clubs/balls you have if it is determined that from the get go your VEM is off the charts and you are going to have 18 headwinds.

.........if you were actually playing for REAL MONEY that would be gambling.

The credits you win can be only used on this site so in my mind it's not gambling.

Then in that case, why are states that outlaw gambling  not allowed to play in paid with credit tourneys ?

My only thought: "Wow, a tailwind on every hole for 18 holes. And I have yet to have a headwind on every hole for 18."  I doubt if the WGT could load the dice for any one particular player. I would be more concerned about high level players using their skill to win consistently while I struggle to improve to their level. Since this is a game of skill it does not come under the purview of most states' or countries' gambling laws. When it does, the WGT makes sure that residents of those areas cannot play.

If the wind conditions were basically the same for both of you in that game I would have no problem but it would have to differ some in keeping with the "realism" of the game.
