The display does not (and can't) exactly match the ball/hole position the game calculates.
For the same reason, there are times your ball looks like it is in the rough but the game determines your ball is in the fairway. Or your ball looks like it's in the fairway but the game determines your ball is in the rough.
Your putt caught the high edge of the hole but had so much pace it lipped out doing about a 150° turn. If your putt had had a little less pace it would have broken more on the way to the hole and would have had a better chance of going in. To little pace and the ball breaks even more, you miss on the low side of the hole, or more likely stop low and short of the hole.
