    Corwyn:
Andy, I agree with mm. Headwinds are far better with starter clubs: it's often the only way to get the damn ball to stop, lol!

    Horses for Courses I guess C... :-)

Thinking back to early days, judging the run out, landing in front of greens for the right bounce etc was a good learning curve...

Still helps even now when punching out of 40/50 from 180 yrds etc etc etc

    Andy

Edit: Good to see 3 legends and a TM in top 4 places...

Putting the TLs in their place...literally !!  :-))

Couldn't agree more, Andy. I think the best thing I ever did in this game was to stick with starters for most of my first year here. My first clubs were not till the G20s at lvl 59. There's no substitute for what you can learn about the courses when forced to!

Make that 4 legends and a TM in the top 5 :)

I just finished my R1 and had some nice winds, and some pretty solid iron and wood play off the tee. Putting was less than stellar, otherwise I could have gone a few shots clear. I had stuttery meter at times and restarted twice, but no excuses for a dreadful 5ft miss on #6, and at least 3 other 15-20ft putts where a ding would have meant birdie. However, fist-pump moment of the round came after having dinged the tee shot on #11 and expecting to be close, only to have it fly 6 yards right with typical starters lack of precision. Justice was done with by sinking this tricky 17ft curler.

Very annoyed indeed to miss the 100% GIR with an early click on the last... aargghh! but salvaged things with a very sweet flop that nearly went in.

    Here's my card and stats:

I don't have a starter pitching wedge, only a sand and a lob wedge. Where can I get one? Shouldn't I have one already?

    Thank you.

Nevermind. I went to play the course and the pitching wedge was in my bag along with the other two. Just a glitch?

No not a glitch. The pitching wedge is part of the iron set. Just like it is in all the iron sets. 3 iron through pitching wedge.

    and had some nice winds
    Well...I'm glad somebody did...lol

Only had 3 reasonable birdie attempts and made one. The other birdie was a lucky downhill 22.4 foot putt on #18, after my double on #17 (don't go right of the green). Putted rather well but must putts were from a distance, so 2 putting was good.

Thank you Corwyn and CD, these are fun.

Could WGT set these up on a regular basis. For example: Two 18 hole single play rounds per tournament, each round lasts 1 week. And start a new tournament each week.

It would be great fun but I'd be surprised as WGT wouldn't make any $$ from hosting them.

I'll second that request: it would be great to have this as a regular feature.

My suggestion would be something a little less frequent but more like a Tour, similar say to the Parallel Virtual Starters Tour I suggested last year.

How about once a month, there's one of these events (on the same course as the VT), but done purely as two rounds of single-play over a 9-day period (so it includes 2 weekends for those who can only play then). I'd recommend scheduling it at the beginning of each month, so it overlapped with the unlimited play in the VT, which would make it easier for players to adjust between starters and fancies).

I could establish a spreadsheet like the UEL Tour ones, and we could solicit prizes from the community as well.

Re PT's concern: surely WGT could afford players to step away from ball purchases for just a couple of rounds each month. I'd argue that keeping a variety of formats and intriguing game options available helps players stay engaged and play more on the site.

    ------------------------

Reminder: today is the last day to play Round 1 of this tourney. Don't forget to share scorecard and stats for a chance to win extra prizes!

I notice another impressive 50 has been posted, by Piirikas (a regular high finisher in Shoe and Icon's special crazy tourneys), and it seems from his profile that he made a HIO on the 6th! Congrats!!!

You'd like to think so.  I've just got a bit disillusioned in recent times where every new feature seems to be concentrated towards lining WGT's pockets so much more than what we actually want.  It's frustrating seeing WGT arranging competitions aimed towards formats that CCs have been asking about for ages, but then not actually enabling the CCs to use them.  Little things like check boxes on the Create Tournament page for 'Use only Starter Equipment' or 'Consistant Wind Direction' would be a massive boost.

Sorry, gone a bit off topic.  Latest 2nd round practice saw a best of +9.  I'll be praying for a tailwind on that first hole.

you will need to share screenshots of your scorecard and stats.

I guess you meant to save to my own profile page. From there I could have linked them here. I used a screen snipper, saved to my computer and  irretrievable for here.

No great loss and a valuable lesson. I almost saved some putts but they stopped 0.3 and 0.4 short.
