    Hi

My average went up to 76 after 1 lst matchplay yesterday.

    Is that possible?

    Best regards

When you move up in tiers your average is reset.  Since you just moved up to Master this is why you are seeing a new scoring average.

No it isn't - match play will never raise any average.

The point is, you became Master just before the last strokeplay.

    Look into your activity log:

    Master at 25.1.,

    a matchplay at 27.1.,

    your post at 30.1..

The reason for your average development was correctly described by Shoe:

That 38 score on 29.1. translates into 78 for average calculation, it is your first Master score and thus your first Master average.

    Happy hitting!

Congrats on the advancement in tiers. I made Legend 2 years ago with a 60 avg. Now I am almost 67. It gets better with time, keep playing and have fun. I DO. I have over 2000 ranked rounds and over 33,000 puts. Self explanatory. Just have fun, it's not the destination that matters, it's the fun on the journey.

It's a massive shock to the system when you play your first round after reaching the next tier. I think my average was about 59 when I reached Legend. Then after 1 round it went up to about 73.  It's taken me over a year to get my average back to where it was before. Keep plugging away and your average will tumble.

I had same reaction. I My average was only 74 or so not 72 and I was awarded Tour Pro. I was happy but didn't understand. The next game I played, I was reset to 85.

It may have been a shock for you, not knowing what happened.

But, mathematically speaking, what follows suit is just a massive nonlinearity in the average calculation:

The numbers you have become used to for a while simply disappear. Both average and number of scores are wiped out, reset. In response to the title, it's not increased but it starts over.

After the promotion, you see the display of the last former tier's average with the new tier designation. And then, the first round under more difficult conditions brings a higher score than you are used to, shockingly becoming the new initial average.

    Hang on, it will decrease!

Sorry you are wrong. I know that matchplay may push an average down, but that wasn't the question.

Read again: It is not possible to have an average go up due to matchplay.
