Earlier this morning Windows updated and when my PC finished booting up after the update the desktop and task bar didn't load apparently because explorer.exe did not load.

I can run most programs by opening the task manager by hitting ctrl-atl-del combo and clicking on run new task under file and locating the program manually. The problem is that there are some programs and files that I just can't seem to find.

I googled the problem with no desktop and task bar and none of what I found addressed my issue. If any of you have any idea how to help me I would appreciate it greatly.

I'm assuming you've tried to load explorer.exe as a new task with the task manager?

Sometimes a cold boot instead of a warm one sorts things out.

System Restore to a previous good state.

    YankeeJim:

Undo the the last update and let it go again.

That could be a long tedious job. There are 32 separate files that were added during this last windows update.

    ZioMio:

System Restore to a previous good state.

Unfortunately System Restore is one of the program files that I can't seem to locate.
And Scott's suggestion was the first thing that I tried.

You can remove the updates one by one until your PC goes back to normality, from the Programs & Features section in the control panel. (But you probably know that already).

Mine is in System Tools (XP)

You could try the command prompt

Type restore in the search box under your start button.

Windows creates a restore point before it installs updates. System recover or Recover is in the control panel. You'll see the "windows update" restore point in system restore (can be accessed through accessories/system tools, also.
