I play a fair amount of alternate shot, which I'm sure you know has its share of problems, especially in setting up a game.  My issue, however, is about green speeds.  In the last few months, there have been a lot more legends and tour legends playing alternate shot.  Legends and Tour Legends always putt at green speeds 12 or 13, so when they play alternate shot, they need make no adjustments to their putting - they putt at that speed 100% of the time.  This puts those of us who are not Legends or Tour Legends at a disadvantage on the greens in alternate shot, since most of us putt at these speeds less frequently.  And please don't say this makes up for the disadvantage they have driving from the back tees - I would gladly tee off from the back tees if I didn't have to putt at 12 or 13 green speeds.

I have noticed that many players are starting to decline Legends when they start to join a game, so clearly I'm not the only one who feels this way.  So far, I haven't done this myself because it's unfair to the player being declined, and it adds extra complications to getting started.  This may change, however, because I'm getting tired of being constantly at a disadvantage.  My suggestion is to make the green speed for alternate shot the same for all players (say green speed 11).  Another (even better) possibility would be to allow the player who starts the game to set the upper limit for participating players, so that, for example, a game could be selected with Pros, Tour Pros, Masters, and Tour Masters only.

If some effort isn't made in this regard reasonably soon, I will have two options - stop playing alternate shot (more than 50% of my play, and I do pay for my balls), or just declining Legends and Tour Legends whenever I play.  I don't like either option, but I also don't like the status quo.  A little fairness might be in order.

Third option is to learn putting on fast greens. Your choice.

Don't hope for any change: They are WGT, hope is futile!

If you can't hang with the big dogs, stay out of their yards.

Learn the greens or learn to leave/boot and try for others in your tier.  Fortunately I don't play a ton of A/S anymore, only match.  Anyone who tried to make that request in MP would get laughed out of here.

This puts those of us who are not Legends or Tour Legends at a disadvantage on the greens in alternate shot, since most of us putt at these speeds less frequently.

I agree ttrific, with everything stated in your fine post. Advantage should flow toward the lower tier. As for the comment by my friend Michael Stroke, I believe in the opposite. This situation is a sad one for me, because I love "open to anyone" alt-shot games with different, unknown players but find it impossible to play it because I always get booted before the game even starts. ~ SP ~

At what point is it counted against your A/S win-loss record?

Can you cancel before tee-off and after the teams are set?

They already get advantages with tees.  At some point you have to stop the catering.  Princes don't appease paupers.

In the words of the illustrious Ric Flair:  To be the man, you gotta beat the man.  This means doing it on his terms, not yours.  The testament to that is how many garbage legends you have out there - most of them with an even 61 average.  Why?  Because it's too easy to advance in match play.  Crappy legends get beat by marginally less crappy tour masters who can milk tee advantages, who become legends themselves and renew the cycle.  Not really earning it when you do that.

There is no question Champ 13 speed is tough and somewhat intimidating for those not use to that speed, but most higher ranked players have no issue with giving advice on the % to hit etc. Just ask and you will get help on the greens and maybe even get to like them !

I am certainly not the best putter out there and sometimes I think I may be the worst. LOL, but I try to help any lower tiered players  if they are struggling with speed.

Edit: I have to admit that I thought from your post that you were new to this game. I see now you've been here 5 years almost. Time to learn it pal !!

Well, I've never heard of Ric Flair and won't bother doing a "Wilk" on him if he says such silly things....Alt-shot to me has nothing to do with winning or losing or some low self-esteem "helper" like "I gotta BEAT this dude & BE DA MAN" type of infantile philosophy. Alt-shot is about carefree, easy going appreciation of fellow WGT players of all skill, interest, and tenure levels....at least in my understanding of it. ~ SP ~
