Bravo Mark! Bad luck on just missing out on the Par round, but 71's a great score. Pity you also just missed a top 5 finish.

So, there is now just the rest of today and all of tomorrow left for this event, with 2nd rounds still to come from 13 players, including Cerino and JoeMaverick both of whom have a reasonable chance of squeezing into the top 5.

Ben's aggregate 140 looks pretty safe, unless Cerino can shoot a 65!

In searching last week to see what archived golf there was at Bethpage online, I came across this YouTube posting of the 2002 US Open. It's fun to see the pros struggle a little with the course... more of a match for the kind of conditions we had here using Starter gear.

P.S. I hope to catch up with the Stats spreadsheet in the next day or so.

Last few hours left to complete R2 for anyone still to play.

Even if you can't win, please do your best to post a score.

I'm thinking of offering a sleeve prize to everyone who completes both rounds of each monthly event for the whole 2015 Tour... but that list of players is dwindling fast!

Next month it will be Congressional, and I've done some testing there. I believe it is playable from the tips (and will present some interesting challenges for course-management strategy) for one of our rounds. So, expect one round from the back tees, and one from the medium.

    Corwyn,

I just started playing the round only to find on hole 1 I forgot to unequip my wedges. And the tourney let me start like this. I was able to take my shot with my Ping 64 degree wedge. I WD immediately in the spirit of fairness. Probably the 1st time I ever regretted not learning to take a screenshot. But I swear it's true. Just wanted to let you know so you can pass it on to Shoe.

    Oh boy!

    Thanks for letting me know.

These set-ups have apparently been tested for exactly this issue. I'm not sure what to think now: could this be another symptom of things going wrong that used to work properly, or was this particular test-case never encountered?

Pity about the screenshot... Note I always put screenshot instructions on the first page of each of these events.

I wouldn't expect anything other than a WD from you in these circumstances. Thank you. However, we clearly need to have some confidence that these restricted-club events will work properly. Shoe... any insights?

I've always been too lazy to learn or to open a photo bucket account ;-)

Just thinking out loud, could it have anything to do with the fact that my wedges can no longer be found in the pro shop and therefore can't be tested (or they simply forgot to test them)? Or were the setting set to "nothing you can buy in the pro shop may be in your bag"? Cause TM burners with CGs could be a lethal combo to slip past the gates next month, lol.

Edit: This being said, I've always counted on honesty amongst the players (a few internet cafe visitors aside). I refuse to believe that anyone playing this competition would ever even think of trying to use any "forbidden" club on purpose to gain advantage. It would go against everything this event stands for.

This is a very good theory. We've had EZ swing clubs (big disadvantage), but now Pings with a huge advantage - problems in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. Can we get Shoe to set up a test event in unlimited play and provide Corwyn with the link? A few selected testers can then figure out what combos will slip through the net before the next event starts. The old Cally wedges are no longer in the pro shop, so these could be deadly if not prevented.

Jure, you could have just not used any of the wedges instead of having to withdraw. It would have been significantly tougher, but maybe quite good fun!!

Feel free to forward the link to me then. I have a few spare minutes today, and trying to break WGT will be very therapeutic :-)

I made the request last night. No answer yet...

But yes, I will certainly send you the link when it comes! Thanks for being willing to test it out.

[Speaking of "WGT breaking", did you see the strange goings-on at #14 @ Bandon?]

If you need someone to check whether the old TM Z-Satin wedges also slip through the cracks, I'll offer up my services for that one Corwyn.  I doubt there's many folks left who still pack those things around.  After all, cast-iron shafts are a touch on the heavy side these days...   ;-)

And sorry for missing out on this month's instalment...time constraints got the better of me.  Should be good to go for the next one though.  :-)
