11 days and only 22 more spots before the cut drops to 56 ... really, really, really unreal ...

LOL. It will as soon as I shoot my 57. The day I shot a 58 it dropped to 57!  :-(

    Thank GOD, I'm done!!!!

Decided to try something different, turn off the TV, put the cell phone in the other room, and focus on playing only, and I'll tell ya That's a lot of work, I don't see how you guys do it!

Just as the cut is about to drop to 56, with the help of a 43ft uphill breaking putt and a pretty cool hole out eagle on #8, I finally broke 57 and posted a 54...

Still missed a 5ft birdie putt and a 7ft'er that lipped out....probably payback for holing out the wedge....even birdied #15 and #16, the holes that have ruined many possible great rounds...

Only took 3 sleeves of balls and a very sore left hand to do it....if 54 doesn't qualify I quit!!! LOL

    posted a 54.

Well played.  V safely in the beer tent watching you have to think.

Wish every one the best, just don't all feel the need to start hammering in 54.  I know my 55 off the bat was lucky, and don't need to have to try and chase it down, LOL.

It took three rounds, but I have now birdied every hole on Chambers Bay. Now I just need to birdie more than 12 in a round... which might take a while!

I don't know how anybody is managing to get eagles - I haven't had an eagle putt shorter than 60 feet on any of the four "eagle holes".

I guess that's one way to gee yourself up for a good round ;-)

    Well done.

In terms of eagles, I generally have four eagle putts per round here.

The 12th is a reachable par four and only plays about 280 to the pin, key here is not going too long or it will stay up there, 10 yards behind the hole will feed back, been within 3 feet on this hole.

Hole 8 even at it's length is generally reachable.  You have to play left and the fairway gives you a nice bounce forward on your tee shot and second shot, again a shot left here will feed to the pin.

The other 2 par 5's can't remember which number, maybe 4 and 18 are both easily reachable.   4 you can play about 10 yards long and it will feed back to the pin, it's uphill so you have to hit a long hit approach.  18 is fairly simple and reachable almost every time.

Once qualifying is over, the winds and distances might change this but during the Qualifying rounds you should have eagle chances on at least 3 holes per round.

I managed a 55, 9 birdies on the front, birdied 10 and 11, drove the green at 12, stayed up top and I four putted from there (tried to be too cute).  Birdied out for 16 under.   Had four eagle putts but didn't make them.

Cut line might stay at 56, remember it is top 156 scores and ties.   So a lot of people have to better the 56 to get 156 people at 55 and better.

LOL, reading that again, I might need to put that another way....that would be 3 sleeves total for a week, not 1 sitting ...LOL...and that score came in 1final late night attempt at doing better than 57...

The sore left hand has nothing to do with playing as I am R handed, it comes from a week of repeatedly reacting to misplays by striking a piece of oak furniture, forgetting how sore the hand was from many previous strikes delivered to said piece of furniture ....LMAO

Sadly, having only posted 2 55's to date and with 54 being the best score I have ever posted, not to mention qualifying for the open on my 1st attempt to do it once I found out you got 2000 credits just for qualifying, instead of reveling in the moment I find myself reflecting on the 2 missed putts for the 52...never mind that the 40+ ft putt I made had something like a 0.5% chance of going and the wedge on #8 was as much luck as skill...I'm a "sick" man!

    TarheelsRule:

Hole 8 even at it's length is generally reachable.  You have to play left and the fairway gives you a nice bounce forward on your tee shot and second shot, again a shot left here will feed to the pin.

Also if you stay left with the approach, even if you go past the hole the ball will come off that hill and roll back down by the pin...#8 is a lot easier with the 250yrd BB 3wd..

18 is fairly simple and reachable almost every time.

If you stay to the right of the pin or dead on the pin you can also catch the upslope behind the pin and it will funnel back down for 8-17ft putt that has very little break and very makeable...

not too far left of the pin you usually go way left and get a tough downhill putt with a big break...

drove the green at 12, stayed up top and I four putted from there (tried to be too cute)

LOL, I've been there! LOL, I hit the 3wd with a tailwind now...
